I have a 05 vette with a bad diff. Cracked the housing. Looking at all options right now, upgrading to the 06 with an adapter, 04 Z06 diff and make a mount, or back to stock. My question is, is there any difference in the actual housing between an automatic car and a manual car? I know the gearing is different but will it bolt up.
Later year diff cases have more internal webbing to make then stronger than the 2005 cases themselves. The 2005 A4 and M6 cases are the same for the diff case and internal parts for the most part (gearing differences).
As for C6 Z06 diff that started in 2006 (stronger diff case), stronger internal parts like the output shaft hubs, to hold to more torque before they snap due to more torque from the LS7.
As for back to diff, even later year cases that are stronger, and even with the stronger internal parts from the Z06 diff, you get into wheel hop with uncontrolled tire spin, and one the tires gets a good bite, your going to blow that one up as well.
