Default Upgrades while engine out?

08 Z06 is going into the shop next week to get a bad lifter addressed. Going to swap cam and all of the associated goodies done while it's in, just wondering if there's anything else I should have done while things are apart and the engine is out.

Car already has headers and full exhaust. New alternator. Was thinking starter would be good to swap out since mine has been a little weak lately. Anything else worthwhile to address, preventative maintenance wise or general upgrades?

Thanks in advance!

Have you had the head reworked to address the dropped valve issue on the LS7?

Yeah heads would be my number one concern if they haven't been addressed yet. that would for sure be the time to do it.

Yes, heads have already been done, WCCH heads came on the car when I bought it. The TSP cam he put in ate the lifter though, so redoing most of what he upgraded.

in that case one of these never hurts:

I also personally put a new oil pump on any time I have the cam out of an ls motor, good insurance.

If the engine still has the OEM harmonic balancer ... replace it with a good aftermarket balancer.

The OEM balancer is a known failure item and replacing it at a later date will be very labor ($$$) intensive.

Also ... new lifter trays

Be a good time to upgrade your clutch if they haven’t already
if you have the clear clutch reservoir upgrade to the new black one
and install a clutch bleeder line
and be aware of wherever that lifter was located the cylinder wall underneath is probably scared

Got an upgraded clutch but I am definitely going to have the health of it checked while it's accessible.
Solid suggestions on the reservoir and bleeder line, will definitely be doing that.

And yep, going to tear down the whole shebang and check everything. When this thing goes back together I want complete peace of mind moving forward.

Thanks!

Think the oem is still on there, added to the list. Lifter trays were on the list from the shop as one of the definites as well.

I also had a failed lifter. NOT using GM lifters on this motor. I went with Johnson link bars, no plastic lifter trays.

Engine coming out because it's easier to completely tear down that way. Heads coming off and getting machined, everything getting torn down, checked and replaced.

Why would the engine be out of the car for a bad lifter?
