Just happened on the way home today. It’s making a noise similar to a dentist drill. The noise goes up and down with the rpms. I shut it off and the noise was still there, just not as high pitched.
As soon as I opened the door it quit. I started it back up and it was still making noise.
Recently I started getting a “Service Electrical System “ message on the dash. The manual says to have a dealer check the ECU.
The ECU was programmed at East Coast Supercharger last year to get rid of codes from the CAI and O2 sensor. Also, the battery died over the winter and it’s brand new. Says over 14 volts.
Is it coming through the speakers? Aftermarket stereo or factory? Aftermarket amplifier? I've heard this happen when there's poor ground loop isolation.
Went to have codes read today. No error codes at all. I forgot to say it’s an ‘06.
The noise seems to be coming from the driver door speaker. All stock radio etc. He also checked the alternator and it’s good.
What stumps me is the noise continues when the engine is off. It doesn’t stop until you open the door.
Any ideas are appreciated.
Oh yeah, the service manager backed it into a guard rail. Almost knocked me over. Needs new Corsa exhaust and the back painted. Told me they would take care of it.
Yep, pushing the starter button to shut the motor off, just does that, while the rest of the modules are alive still waiting for the door open command before they start to shut down itself.
Hence should have noticed this, since radio will not stop playing until you do go to open the door, well after the you have shut the motor off via the starter button.
Okay, pulled fuse 31 for the Bose amplifier. Of course the radio is dead, but at least the noise is stopped. You wouldn’t want to drive with the noise. It would make you crazy.
There are no error codes and the alternator checked okay.
Still get “Service Electrical System” on dash. It definitely comes on if you step on it. But, also sometimes if just idling.
Please give me some ideas on what to check.
I’m surprised nobody commented on the repair shop backing it into the guard rail. Got an estimate of $900 to paint the back. Plus a new Corsa Sport exhaust.

I’ll be calling ECS tomorrow. Any thoughts?
Thanks
I had the same issue with my 08Z....factory navigation head unit and Bose.
Pulled fuse 31 and whine is gone. I'm guessing it's got a bad head unit/amp.
