Default Custom Cam Spec Question

Hi, all,

I bought my 08 base with a cam already installed, and the custom cam specs seem unconventional to me. Any thoughts on these specs? The car has a lot of chop and it rips, but the cam specs seem strange. Motor is stock LS3 other than cam, cold air intake, and long tubes/straight 3" exhaust.

230/234 duration at .050
.615/.600 lift at 1.7
114 Lobe Separation
112 Intake Center Line

Thanks!

Almost exactly the spinmonster cam specs...

230/234 .612/.598 114+2

I'm no cam junkie so others will have to chime in, but the spinmonster cam is well known for power, driveability, and still having that chop that some folks are after.

Are you having any issues with it?

My recomendation: If you want to upgrade cams, get your car on a dyno and as soon as you find a car making more power that drives as good, get that cam.

I haven't seen any cams with 'conventional' specs make more power. I've seen it matched with more overlap but what's the point?

I'll go first. Here is a 230/234 114+2 which has been installed countless times since 2008:

15 years later the same BS still gets pushed.

You can get a huge overlap cam to drive OK in an automatic car with a huge stall because the converter is hiding the bucking and surging but you never see those cams in a manual trans car because beople would be changing out the cam after seeing how bad it drives. Those cams are always sold by tuners who post engine dyno graphs showing 550hp but the driveline has a 55-65hp loss on a C6 so it really makes 485-495 on a manual corvette.

Want more Tq? Increase the compression. Don't go narrow LSA with more advance and a big split.

Conventional...
Here is an independent install and review:

Here are some videos for you guys. I have uploaded tons of videos on my YouTube channel as people were reaching out to me inquiring for more details.

Thanks again Spin! I hope everyone chooses this cam! I am adding boost to mine hopefully next year. Should make 700-800whp on E with the ECS Novi 1500 blower kit.

Thanks for the feedback! No, no problems at all with the cam. The car has an awesome chop and absolutely rips. I ask because I don't necessarily believe everything the seller told me about the car and the specs on the cam card looked a lot different than the standard cams that are out there. He claimed it was dyno tuned at 502 hp and 487 lb torque at the wheels (with a very aggressive tune), which doesn't seem too crazy given that dyno chart. Did that car have other mods (heads, etc.)?

Thanks again!

Stock heads and compression.

I doubt any cam can make 487 Tq without heads and bumped compression.. I would get the car on a dyno.
