I had a new Alpine ILX-507 head unit installed in my 2010 GS. I now am regretting not installing the front cam. I will have to replace the HVAC unit so I was thinking of adding the camera while I'm in there.
I was wondering if it is as simple as plugging in and routing the cable. Can anyone who has installed a front cam shed any light the installation.
Note: I currently have a Curb Alert and found it to be inconsistent. I want to get this worked out before installing a new splitter.
I wired mine to a fuse that is hot with the key on.Ran the cable through the grommet in the passenger footwell and along the fender.Mounted the camera right above the front grill and it works great.can't see it unless you are really looking and can turn it on any time.I went with a cheap camera and it works as good as the expensive one I put on the rear.I think the front camera was less than $10.
Hardest part will be pulling the console apart again. I did front and rear cameras on my C5 with my Alpine unit. The installer wired the front camera through the engine bay to the front a damn under the car, but I relocated it to the space under the plastic license plate cover.
Curious to hear what camera you go with and how you like it; want to add one myself.
I was researching for this winter's project. I will be replacing the HVAC controller at the same time.
But, I was looking at HCE-C2600 FD from Alpine. ( front camera )
The rear camera works great.
From what I have read it is simply a matter of connecting and routing the cable once I have the console cover removed.
