thanks for the reply's. I bought a z06/zri manifolds with cats and might look into a tuner. staying away from the cam kit etc. Only other thing would be a small shot of NOS. appreciate it guys
You've twice mentioned a "tuner", which makes me think you believe it to be a physical object that can be installed. A tune is essentially changing the computer's values to accomplish things like advancing/retarding spark timing, increasing/decreasing fuel volume. A "tuner" is simply the person who makes changes to those values. It's not necessary to use a dyno, however that's a tool that can measure the differences in power output, which can confirm or deny that the tuning changes are going in the right direction.
Unless something has changed with CA emission checks, Any unauthorized tuning change from stock, is an automatic fail. You should verify that statement with your emission testing station.
Not my #1 concern but I do consider overall value after each mod which is usually not a positive.
You can easily put 20g into a car modding. I would consider a Z with fixed heads or a ZR1.

Another one recommending a car that costs $50k+ more than the one the OP just bought.
Corvette owners I tell ya
This is what I did on my 07 m6, my HB did go bad when i was road racing it so as mentioned above you might want to get a good aftermarket one with an ARP bolt! Now on to the mods, I ported the stock intake, slightly blended the high spots and ridges on the TB.... NOT ported it but just blended, I added a vararam CAI with paper filters in place of the green filter, catch can, and a 160 t-stat. Car did feel like it was making more power, Next summer I added one step colder delco plugs, new delco wires, ZO6 manifolds, down pipes with stock cats, 3" zo6 H pipe that necked down to 2.5" before the axle then into npp mufflers. Took it to be tuned and it dynoed at 395hp and 402tq . so, for about $1500 parts and tune i picked up about 50hp, I'm happy
Well he is out of luck for tuning his car now. Smog checks aren't anything new in CA, but this rule change is something to be aware of. Here's a good reminder to anyone running a tuned car out in California: As of today, July 19, the state's notoriously strict smog testing will automatically fail any car when it detects modified software onboard, aka, a tuned ECU.Jul 19, 2021
