When accelerating I get a noise (that I can only describe as sounding like shaking rocks in a can) in the RPM range of approximately 800-1500. I believe it happens in both 1st and 2nd gears but I so seldom have the car in this range in second gear, that I may be mistaken. I otherwise don't hear it or, what I would consider, any other unusual noises. My car has approximately 29,000 miles on it. There are also times when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear I can't get it into 2nd unless I double clutch. Are these things related? Any ideas on how to rectify these issues? Thanks in advance for any help.
Thanks to both you and "ClothSeats" for answering me. I have always found this forum to be helpful. Any other thoughts from anyone about either of my two issues mentioned are very welcome. I currently don't have a jack or ramps to raise my car but will look at the springs when I next take it for oil change.
Thanks. I can't get under the car but when I do oil change will look then. That said, this car is relatively spotless underneath, I don't think this is the problem. Thanks again for the help.
I had something similar when I reinstalled my exhaust after header install. Had small header leak and the 2 mid pipe flanges were hitting each other a bit at low rpm.
After driving my car holding the shifter it seems to have reduced the noise. I'm not yet ready to say this is definitely the problem. Is there any way to adjust the shifter so it doesn't rattle? Thanks for the help.

i had mentioned that (above) because mine was doing that at about 19k very gentle miles.
i bought an MGW shifter. Problem solved and eliminated all the vagueness too
