I have a questions regarding the C5 differential going into a 2005 C6. From what I am reading the stock 2005 C6 diff is fine for stock power but when adding power there is a potential issue with the diff case cracking or full failure with the transmission shaft getting bent. I am on an information quest. I am not looking to add big power but adding some power and firmer shifts. I am considering a streetable cam and rearend gears. Currently my LS2 is stock with 3.15 rear gears.
Is there a difference between the base C5 and Z06 diffs or just gears? I have read the Z06 diff is bolt in with the 2005 model year along with some other stabilizing bracket. Does the base C5 diff use the same bracket or is there a difference between the base and Z06 diffs?
I have been looking on Ebay and it seems the C5 Z06 diff all come out of manual trans cars. Will the trans shaft on the 2005 A4 have the same spline as the C5 manual trans?
That chance exists with the C6, as well. If you put out enough power, coupled with sticky tires, you can spit the diff onto the track in any car. I am at 600+chp with my LS7 in a 2000 A4 C5. Stock driveline. If I go with stickier than 200 treadwear tires, I may need to pick my diff off the track. So far, even with a 3,200 stall Yank converter, I've had no issues.......Yet.....
