Default Shifter Bushing Help

I am helping a buddy replace the shifter bushing on his 2009 auto. I have done 2 of these before, but this one is stubborn. I have the bushing in the cable, but can't get it to snap onto the shifter. I don't want to break his cable, any tips or tools that you guys have used to help?

I'm using the Dorman 14041 bushing.

Thanks

I used a different bushing on my 2010. USA Trans Cable shift bushing. ( https://www.ebay.com/itm/122450072485 ) I had both the Dorman and this bushing available but thought the quality of the USA ATSB was much better. But, I used the side of the tunnel as leverage to push the bushing into place.

Thanks, I tried to use the side of the tunnel this thing is tough, just won't snap in. I may try some different pliers, all I had was vice grips.

Might want to run back to your local auto parts store and pickup the Dorman 14055 bushing kit. The information I have picked up from the forum is that one contains the proper bushing for fit & function.

Good luck...GD

We picked up all 3 kits lol. this one popped right into the cable, but not onto the shifter.

I am just afraid of damaging the cable since it is not my car. I did my c5 and c6, but this one is stubborn. Maybe I need to put more force on it or use a different set of pliers.

Ouch! Maybe a little spray lube and a small right-angled pick could work the bushing out of the cable so you can insert the bushing from the 14055 kit that will fit the post on the shifter.
