LS2 timing chain backslash
i'm doing a big service to my 2007 LS2 C6 , more or less 50000 miles on ....
all the drivetrain is out , engine too , for the clutch / t.tube rebult ecc ecc ....
changing the harmonic balancer with a new one that has the degrees marks on ... so i used a piston stop tool on cilinder 1 sprark plug bore to get the 2 marks (rotating the cranckshaft clockwise and anticlockwisw) and so get my Top dead point.... everything is ok and no iussue with that ....
My doubt is ...... when i invert the crank rotation i feel just like 10° (more or less) of "free rotation" before feeling the counterforce of the distribution. Do u think is it normal ? i tought about the chain backslash ..... any ideas or suggestion ?
The engine before was running perfectly .... i do not want to open the front cover if not necessary ....
Thank u in advance mates
I opened the front cover and took out the oil pump ..... my doubt is now a certainty , the slash i feel moving manually the flywheel is exactaly dipending from the timing chain.
I'm used to built and mantain small racing european turbocharged engines so my "eye" is used to consider every lack inammisible , expecially on the timing system ..... but i think that my LS2 timing chain is absolutely too untight for everyone.
So , put the hand at the wallet and buy a new timing chain kit , gaskets and all the stuff needed.
I hope this experience could be usefull for someone else too.
