Wondering if anyone has encountered this and, if so, what you did to fix it. If I unlatch the top and press the retract button, the top will not go down. I get an "unlatch me" message. If I give the top a gentle nudge just to separate the top from the windshield header a little bit, it retracts perfectly. Putting the top up works perfectly. I'm wondering if there is some lubrication point that needs some lube or some adjustment somewhere. It's more of an annoyance than an issue at this point.
I have always pushed up slightly when turning the release handle on my power top. This information is contained in your owners manual describing how to lower the power convertible top. I would strongly suggest that you read through the operation details to avoid making any mistakes and inadvertently damaging your top and/or the mechanism as these parts are no longer available new...GD
3. Release the convertible top front
latch, located above the inside
rearview mirror, by pulling and
turning it clockwise. Push
upward on the front edge. The
windows will automatically lower.

Yep, completely normal. You have to push the top up enough to disengage the micro switch that's in the windshield header.
Thanks. I've had other convertibles that didn't require the initial push up, so it never occurred to me that this is the way it's done with the C6. Of course, I would have figured it out had I actually looked it up in the owner's manual as noted. But thanks for responding.
I can give you a tip that isn't covered in the owners manual concerning the closure of the top, at least on my car. The manual does state that once you open the latch and push up, you should then return the latch to the locked position with the handle secured in the recessed position. BUT when closing the top, be sure to stop the process before the top contacts the top of the windshield. Then pull the latch handle and turn clockwise to the open or unlatched position and then push the button to finish the close process and lock the top.
The handle moves the two locking rods in and out to release and secure the top to the windshield frame. On my car, if you press the button to full close, it will allow the top to hit the top of the windshield frame with sufficient force to break the tips of the locking rods. A previous owner of my car must have done this as one of the rod tips is broken off. Not enough that it will not engage and lock, but potentially could be a problem that might result in the top not able to secure properly. These two locking rods are no longer available for purchase and replacement if broken.
I have no experience with any other C6 convertible top operation, so my power top may have a problem with the hydraulic pump that slams the top down with force upon closure. So others may not experience what I have, but good to know just in case.
