This is both a PSA and a rant. Just got the Aviaid tank insert delivered and let's just say I'm very disappointed. First off, the finish was horrible. Every cut edge had burrs and loose metal shavings left. Spent about 30 minutes filing, sanding, and cleaning to make sure I don't introduce metal shavings directly into my engine. So the PSA is to anyone who buys this, make sure to inspect for loose metal shavings and burrs before installing!
Oh but it doesn't stop there because after all of that work, I installed it per the instructions and it doesn't even fit properly. The slot for the transfer tube isn't at the proper angle so when I put the top back on the alignment is WAY off. I can probably open up the slot in the bottom in order to give more room to spin the insert into proper alignment but is this thing even worth it at this point?
I have an 09 with the extra oil capacity and the top of the tank has a built in cyclonic oil separator which is supposed to help with aeration. I'm getting the impression that these were designed for the 06-08 model tanks and the design was never updated for the new tank in the 09 and up.
How much is this thing really going to help? Would be happy to get my $250 back given the experience so far.
Would have called them up for them to issue a call tag to be send back to them on their own dime, and called the CC people to cancel the charge so not hit with any restocking charges.
Maybe slight porting tweaking may be needed (not that much), but to let it go out with that amount of burs to start with for end user to have to debur and clean up, way over the top for the money for the unit.
