My C6 is a 2012 Grand Sport all original with 27,000 miles. The check engine light was on and now off. A scan shows P0300 (3/3 misfire detected) permanent. Engine has never been rough or any problem seem. Is it safe to keep driving around town?
You don’t want to keep driving around with a possible misfire…you can nuke your cats !!…yes, check plug wires and if all good get it fixed ASAP !!…these “permanent” codes will not be able to be cleared from a scan tool unless the misfire is repaired and the misfire monitor has run and showed completed in Mode 6…in Mode 6 you can check which cylinder or cylinders are misfiring.
I don’t know what scan tool you are using but when you first turn it on you may see a check engine light symbol…in here you don’t enter car make, model, etc… you enter there are you would see 10 modes…mode 6 is “display test parameters” or whatever your scan tool displays…my Snap On Verus Pro menu is displayed below…your scan tool may also say OBD/EOBD !!…mine says “OBD Direct”…Mode 10 ($0A) came about in 2010 but not put into full usage till 2012..these are permanent codes which your P0300 is showing…Mode 6 video below…your scan tool may also show misfires in “Enhanced or Factory” OBD2 where you do enter make, model, etc…don’t know whether you are using a “code reader” or a scan tool ??
My tool is a Harbor Freight VURICH ZR11S OBD2 Code Reader. The box says Code Reader and the manual calls it a Scan Tool. Which is it? Is it a good model for my C6?
