Default Recommend Electrical Contact Cleaner ETC Please

Recently picked up a 2005 M6 coupe with 13K miles and am trying to sort out a bit of known issue stuff and do some PM.

Would appreciate a couple of specific recommendations for (1) contact cleaner (2) corrosion guard or dielectric for after cleaning parts. Things like the BCM connectors, under hood fuse block etc would be my areas of focus most likely.

Thanks!

I use WD-40 specialist contact cleaner spray because it's easy to use a lot of spray. Then switch to better product like Caig labs deoxit and also use pencil eraser etc depends what it needs.

Deoxit for a cleaner and Stabilant 22 which is a contact “enhancer”…pretty expensive at $63.00 for a small 15 mL bottle but the best there is…no dielectric
grease which is an insulator in low current circuits especially air bag circuits which do not tolerate resistance…we used Deoxit in the Airline Industry exclusively.

not sure what you are chasing, but there are 2 connectors in the fender near the ECM (C180 and C184) if you are cleaning/"Enhancing" the ECM connectors. Many of the wires have a junction there in addition to the end points.

David there are no specific gremlins right now, but I appreciate the head's up for a few other items to put on my "look at" list. As I read older posts folks seem to suggest keeping an eye on all these modules and connectors and try to stay ahead of it by searching for heat damage, etc etc. Or if something begins to rear it's head avoid taking the immediate parts swap out mentality and learn some skills to clean/solder/repair things on your own.

I have a 35 year background in HVAC controls in residential equipment so I'm hoping that helps me in these endeavors.

Thanks again!
