What a day. Started out good. Had my transmission and differential fluid changed. During the service I noticed a nail in my tire.
Drove to America’s Tire hoping they could fix it. When the tire representative came out, he asked me to put the car in reverse so he could see the nail. The shifter cable just moved up and down and the Corvette would not move. The nail was never looked at.
Waited 2 hours for a flat bed, and had the Corvette towed to my house. The temp outside was 97 degrees.
Called my mechanic who advised me the front bushing probably cracked. The repair cost was high.
I bought the bushing and I am going to repair it tomorrow with a friend. Looked at several videos but didn’t see a real detailed one. Most of the video didn't show how to correctly remove the switch connectors.
Is there a good write up or video, that you could recommend that might help me with this project?
Here is a a good detailed video how to remove the front bushing on the shifter from C&S corvette. They actually chaged the bushing and the microswitch harness(seperate issue from yours)i n this video.
You sure its not you bushing on the transmission end?...They can break also
It is often the bushing on the lower end of the shift cable due to the location near the exhaust. Check to see which end failed. Dorman makes the bushings and they are sold in variety packs and should have two of the bushings that you need so you can replace both ends. Someone was near the transmission oil pan when they serviced it and may have bumped or disconnected the lower end of the cable causing it to fail within a few movements of the shift cable.
Took the Corvette to a tire shop. They pulled out the nail. It was about 1/4 inch, and cery thin. It did not go thru the tread. Somehow it went it sideways. Tire was tested and there were no leaks.

I replaced mine a few years ago I was stuck at a bank drive thru I put it park wouldn't shift back to drive had it also ramped truck to my house at the time someone posted that the bushings were available at Ace hardware I got them and installed myself it seems to take more time to remove everything to get to shifter not a hard job just time consuming good luck.
