Hi to all,
I have an after market Kenwood DNX576S stereo display head. It has the rear camera installed but no front camera.
I have researched this unit and it supports a front camera and looks fairly easy to install. However, I can find no recommended install procedures. Nor can I find any operational explanations of how or when it goes on and off.
Since this stereo head is older technology, I want to be reasonably certain how it works before I start pulling things apart and running wires. If I have to select this camera every time I want to view the front then I would probably just pass on the install. However, if it acts similar to my daily driver, the front camera comes on automatically if in drive and going less than 5mph, the. It would be a keeper.
Anyone have any info, experience or can point me to a document ?
thanks
I had a Kenwood DNX577S installed in our C6. I, like you worry about a spoiler strike. So, I had the front camera put in as well. The routing of the wire was easy and I mounted the Cam under the front bumper fairly far back. The camera comes on automatically when I drop her in reverse but there also is a button on the screen for the front camera. Either that or I just drop her in reverse a second and then drive. The cam switches automatically to the forward camera. Yeah, it can be a pain when you are in a hurry...or others around you are. I don't really give a @#%& what they think as it's literally a second out of their lives and saves me MONEY. Enjoy.
I have a Kenwood and mounted the camera ABOVE the spoiler, behind the grill. It works, I can see what I need to see. My Kenwood actually has a button to push for the camera. THe back camera comes on automatically when I go into reverse. IF you didn't know it was there you would miss it. I don't use that camera much, but instead learned from someone on this forum to STOP, about a foot before you think you should. Works every time.
Does your Kenwood unit have any exterior buttons or screen icons for a front camera if it has the ability to connect one? I installed an Alpine iLX-507 which has a camera button on the front (2 right from center). I just push this when approaching anything and the front camera view comes right on, works great. I put the cameras on front & rear, now pulling up to a curb or backing up is very simple & safe. Got the head unit & camera kits from Crutchfield.
Hey Chuckman, I have the same head unit. Where did you get your front camera. I like the way it mounts.
Purchased them from Crutchfield. Mounted it using 3m double-sided tape, which I believe was included, and it mounts firmly. I recall there's a clearly labeled camera wire that you simply clip to flip the view for use as a forward camera - it comes set up to be a backup camera. Ran the cable up along right side of the engine bay, and through the large wire-harness boot behind the battery to get it inside & under the dash. A great upgrade and one of those things you wish you did sooner.
