Default Splitter question

I am tired of my 2005 convertible front splitter scraping on my drive way curb. Is it okay to remove the splitter without causing harm?

That spoiler directs cool air up to the radiator.

That part was designed to be scraped. That's why it's flexible and easily replaced,

As TCM posted, the front splitter is designed to be an integral part of the cooling system by directing cooling air up into the rad. Try going in & out of your driveway at an angle.

Are you asking about the Front Splitter or the front Air Dam under the car?

Go ahead and take off either or both if it runs hotter then put it back. Maybe it just needs the side air dam pieces off as another option.

You can trim the air dams, especially the outer portions I wouldn’t recommend removing them completely although you may be fine street driving

is it a splitter, a front lip, or the underside air dams? on the underside, you can remove the two side pieces really, but you'll lose brake cooling flow into the little ducts (not a big deal for cruising). as far as the center air dam, it should stay for heat exchanger cooling.

if its a front lip, such as in my profile pic to the left, you can remove it with no issues.

if its a full splitter for aero, just based on the nature of how they operate, cars tend to run a tad warmer with one on than without.

I got my car with the whole air dam (3 pieces) gone. Added them back on, didn't have any cooling improvements. The side pieces came off after a week going in/out of my driveway. The center piece would slightly scrape but no big deal. Coming down the rollercoaster at VIR actually tore it off. Got the meatball for it and finished tearing it in the pits. Still don't have any cooling issues on track, but I'm sure as I get faster and driver other tracks I will.

on the Z06 the Air Dam under the car does nothing for engine cooling as it is not a bottom feeder like the Base is.

Well, my response is moot then.

It does help funnel air up into the front brake cooling ducts though

C6 base is not a bottom feeder either. That air dam changes pressure zones to promote better flow through the radiator.

My Z51 brings in air thru the front and bottom, While my Z06 the bottom opening is blocked off. So yes it isn’t a total bottom feeder but I bet it does get some air up thru that opening with the air dam in place.

the brake effect is nothing on a base street convertible, disregard all of the splitter comments unless your car is all aftermarket!

True, that hole on a base probably does nothing without the ducts to the caliper area. I never had a Base so I did not know they didn't have the ducts. I have had Z51's, GS and Z06's. Sorry
