Default 2006 Corvette C0161-12

Hi all,

I have searched a ton and not having much luck. I got a C0161-12 code. Digging around I came up with brake position sensor is bad, Replaced it with an aftermarket and I calibrated using my XTool D8S diag tool. Went about 4 or 5 weeks and all was great then braking one day it came back. Decided it was junk parts and ordered and OEM switch. That ones last 6 weeks and it came back, It is odd because there times I can go long drives and it never errors out. Then there are days where it triggers the minute I start the car.

Does anyone know what the -12 part of the C0161 code means? I find a bunch of references to C0161-11 but not the -12. I am hoping it will give me a better clue to narrow down the issue. Open to suggestions too. I miss cruise control.

Thx!

Below is from Service Info and a flow chart if you want to follow it…that DTC doesn’t mean the sensor is bad…it could be wiring or a bad EBCM !!…test don’t guess !!..hope you didn’t use an Amazon or EBay part ??…best to buy from Rock Auto or a Dealership for a not too expensive part.

Your problem is very probably due to a poor connection at the BCM. The BPPS signal goes through one of the big blue connectors at the BCM (the upper one, I believe). Unplug each connector by pinching the sides and swinging the lock lever. Drench the terminals in contact cleaner and reconnect.

The poor connection can be exacerbated by a passenger's feet pressing on the footwell.

If your scan tool provides live data, you can watch the BPPS voltage while you jiggle the BCM connector.

Thx for the manual info (which I was hoping for and good suggestion on the wiggle while hooked to diag machine.) It was worse yesterday and I did have a passenger. Dirty connector would be awesome.
