I’m not the one building my motor but I did buy some new valves for my new set of heads that I’m going to install myself. My question is what should I lube the valves with before putting them in, just some motor oil or a particular assembly lube?
Lubriplate 105 is good…if you don’t feel comfortable using an assembly lube just use engine oil…you’ll get 100 answers with this question like which battery should I buy.

From my engine machining class about a zillion years ago:
It'll be awhile before the engine oil reaches there on first startup.
You want to use something with good extreme pressure qualities between the stems and guides.
GL5 90 weight was recommended.
An exhaust valve that had welded itself to the guide was passed around as an example of inadequate first-start lubrication.

Interesting….. this is a brand new set of heads and I’m sure no lube of any kind has been used on them, unless maybe they prelubed the valves before installing them in the head. I’ll be taking these heads and dropping them off with the car when I take it to the shop so it will be a good while before they are put on. I might just hold off and let the builder do all the lubing before putting them on.
