I replaced my rear bushings last fall. The original bushings took most of the paint off as they were kind of seized on. I chose to just clean the area up a bit with steel wool and lube the area up well. My new bushings have grease fittings to keep things in order.
I did not think repaint was worth the time and was pretty sure it would either bind up or come right off again but that was just a guess on my part.

are you painting the entire bar, or JUST the worn part? If just the worn part, absolutely don't do it. Either way the weight of the car will wear it back down. Amazing what a 3500lb car can do to a little metal rod.
