Anyone replace just rear diff axle CV boot successfully? Meaning, was a torn boot the likely problem and not seals in the diff itself...
To do it right replace the axle. You can find quick boots at auto parts stores but they are messy. One a boot starts to leak grease, water and dirt can enter and destroy the joint.

wpuld be best...I'll check fluid level...gong to change trans and diff fluid anyways....always something...
That is diff fluid, not joint grease, so need to go down the rabbit hole of if the diff seal lips just wore out on its own, or if the diff output shaft bearing went bad/has too much slop in it that caused the seal to fail, and diff needs to be pulled apart to replace the output shaft bearing as well.

thanks for the diagram! I figured it was fluid not just grease...I'll be toppings off the fluid hopefully this week and not how much it took. Nothing funny noises and feels fine. Diff has been built before (at least hardened output shafts and sone other things i believe). I'll be heading to ROM Transmission for them to inspect.
those outer seals can leak if they are slightly overfilled also, lots of us have put in a little extra fluid thinking we were helping the car only to find out later we were creating leaks.

that is good to know. I have not changed diff fluid in a C6...I assumed you just filled up to where it would drip out of fill hole? How could you add "too much"...unless you slammed the cap on fast while it was trying to flow out after filling???
is there a free download service manual for C6 Z06?
