C6 electrical problems after headers and x pipe install
So I installed American racing headers and x pipe on my base 08 auto, I ended up ordering the wrong x pipe (2009) which made fitment a nightmare but after cutting off one hanger that hit tranny lines and getting ends of x pipe welded to axle back, it was in, (headers went in no problem). However since I cut off that hanger the x pipe was moving and I could feel it in the wheel when turning hard, (note i gotten about 4 hours of driving before all this below), I woke up started my car and got a service vehicle soon alert, drove for about 15 min and after parking all of my gauges stopped working and all the electricals started glitching, I shut off car to see if that would do anything and it wouldn’t turn back on, once it finally did, it shut off while driving back to my house. Once it was home we looked for burnt wires but found nothing, only a slightly melted o2 sensor on x pipe which still read fine and had no codes so I don’t think it could have been that. Also no codes at all besides misfiring from no tune. So i got it towed to first shop it drove fine once there and was only starting with the off button for some reason, next morning electricals glitched out again on him but he couldn’t diagnose it easily and he told me he couldn’t start on it for over a month so I brought car to Chevy dealer, and they haven’t been able to replicate issue yet, only the off button turning the car on is happening, it’s been there for a week as of now, they told they will try to drive it another 10 miles today and inspect everything again thoroughly, if that fails they said they will have just give car back to me, I live in Ct and there is only 1 corvette shop near me that is booked out for months so hopefully it doesn’t come down to that. but anyways I’ve never seen anyone else with this issue so I’m really jus stuck scratching my head, what do u guys think it could be, just for reference car is in mint condition with 52k miles so im assuming its from install, it was also raining when all these problems first appeared.

Sounds like a communications issue and odd that you have no DTC's (U codes) stored...a no crank no start can also be a cause in addition to the normal starting issues...99.9999% of Dealerships or general repair shops and I doubt your Corvette "specialist" will have no clue where to even start with diagnosing this...being that you took the car to a dealership I'm assuming you have no mechanical or electrical background to try and diagnose it yourself....most communication issues I've seen Corvettes and other cars have issues with modules that are located outside of the car due to them being exposed to the elements like rain...this is a pretty common issue and it's just someone with a certain skillset needed to fix it...if the car is still at the dealership ask them if it may be a comm issue...if you want you can try to disconnect the EBCM connector, spray with some contact cleaner and reinstall and see what happens....you can even leave it unplugged and see if the car starts…another Forum member posted yesterday with similar issues as yours and lives in CT...I referred him to a shop below that may know how to diagnose it…video below so you can see why a normal everyday mechanic would not be able to diagnose this.

I am definitely no where near qualified to try to fix this myself lol, I just called the dealership and they said they have been running car for hours and nothing has happened, they have turned it on and off multiple times and nothing has been wrong, as of now everything is working how it should, they haven’t done anything to the car it’s done this by itself, they are calling Gm techs to see if they can get any more useful info but I dont think they will be able to do anything as car is working currently, is this info helpful at all, could it give u any ideas as to what it may have been? I just don’t want to take car back and have it fail again on me, if I were to contact the other shops u mentioned what would I be best off telling them, I appreciate the help a lot thanks.
They can’t diagnose it if it’s not behaving badly…tell the other shops what you see and they will hook up a scan tool to see if they can communicate with any of the cars modules…for a comm issue that is the first thing to do…if the ECM, BCM, and RCLDR can’t communicate with each other the car will not start…I’ve actually shorted out the CAN bus just to show someone what will happen…car won’t start…this won’t damage any of the modules since they are “fault tolerant”

understood, I am going to take the car back and see if issue happens to me, it’s jus very hard to figure out because issue seems to go away by the time a mechanic can get his hands on it
