Just dropped the car off for a cam swap. I got a Katech C5R timing chain only and looking back I wish I had gotten the full kit like in the pic below. I had a cam installed a couple years ago so I’m assuming I already have the 3 bolt cam sprocket already on the car. So do I just need to buy the crank gear, dampener and arp bolts? Or is it even worth swapping the stock parts? And if so is there a crank gear that you guys recommend? Thanks
Well I came across the invoice of my parts list from a couple years ago and turns out I had the new 3 bolt cam sprocket put on along with a new dampener but the timing chain itself was not changed or the crank gear… that being said would it be worth the time and money of getting a new crank gear to go with the new C5R chain or no?
back in the early World Challenge/Grand Am Cup/ASA days, GM considered the gears extremely reliable and suggested a simple chain upgrade would suffice even in continuous high rpm conditions. No guarantee but in most cases I just upgrade the chain. I did have a client brake a C6/LS2 chain recently, totally stock. I'd never had that happen first hand.

Well I’ve got the Katech C5R chain going on this time and apparently on my last build two years ago the cam sprocket and dampener were changed. So I think I’m just going to go ahead and order this gear as well, it’s only $45 so I might as well.
I don't think it is necessary to change the gears. I have done cam swaps on LS cars with 30K miles, 60K miles, and 97K miles. None of them had any significant wear on the gears (or the chain for that matter).

went ahead and ordered it because I found it on rock auto shipped for $35
i appreciate the feedback tho, like you said it’s probably totally pointless but did it for peace of mind anyway lol
