I recently have started noticing something odd about my car. If I hit the brakes really hard, I hear this strange metallic spinning sound. I can definitely confirm that it is either the transmission or the bar that connects it to the engine. Sometimes the sound will continue for a little while after I smash the brakes, sometimes it seems to go away within a few seconds. But it most definitely isn't coming from the engine. Any ideas what this may be?
I was talking about your brakes, transmissions usually do not make that kind of noise while braking hard.
breaking hard isn't the only time it makes the sound, that's just what triggers it. After I break really hard, the transmission will make a whining sound for a little while. Sometimes it's only for a few seconds and sometimes it lasts for a few minutes.

Is it the sound you can hear at 2mn in this vidéo?
