I need to replace my AC compressor. What brand/model are you all running for aftermarket since factory replacements are not available?
Are the replacements coming preloaded with oil in them? Just install and charge the system?
My current system, I just vacuumed it all out. Nothing internally wrong. The clutch bearing went bad and ate up the part where the clutch bearing rides on got chewed up bad so it’s time to replace.
Could use some recommendations. I was looking at R&Y as they have a lot of parts for our AC systems.
An A/C compressor is not a component that I'd have a strong feeling to remain OEM. Whatever fits should be fine. Some compressors come prefilled with oil and some don't, you will just need to read the description for the particular compressor. For example on Rockauto I see 4 options for my 2009 ranging from $200 to $400. The $200 unit (UACCO21132LCPrefilled w/ OE-Specified Oil) is a popular seller as indicated by the heart icon next to it so I would personally go with that one.
If nothing wrong internal with compressor, then extract so you don't lose Freon, change out compressor, replace accumulator filter and O ring at condenser fitting, Vacuum system to boil off any humidity in the system during the repair, then recharge system in the end.
As for new compressor, up to you, but with it in hand before install, would be pulling the clutch pulley to add a touch more grease to the pulley bearing, since a great deal of the bearings come under greased to begin with ,and in some cases wrong grease for the application on hand that the bearing is going to be used for..

this is the head of my compressor. It got chewed up pretty good. No leaks, AC was ice cold but I hear a small bearing like sound and found that the whole clutch assembly wiggles a little. I had a spare good clutch assembly and it wiggles on it as well so the snout of this thing is toast. Already vacuumed it out into a new AC recovery tank. Worked really well to be honest.
