Default C6 Grandsport - Air Filter Issue / Question?

Hello,

Had an issue come up when attempting to replace air filter in car. For background, I bought this car pre-modified. I assuming to make space for the Magnuson Heartbeat supercharger they may have had to use a shorter after-market air intake for the filter to mount.

Removing the old filter, it looks to be the stock part number for GM / AcDelco / Donelson replacements on the LS3 (P605801 = Wix 49997). The issue is that the filter has this pre-applied foam gasket of sorts around the perimeter of the filter. This glued on foam isn't a part of new replacement filters it seems and I cannot remove it from the old filter to stick on to the new one. If I put on the new filter without, I am left with an exposed outside baffle after putting on the mounting bracket.

Put the older one back on while I try to figure out whats going on or if I need to make my own foam gasket of sorts. The perimeter foam is just under an 1" in height (like 7/8"). Also, notice the screw cylinder mounts around the perimeter. These come / fall out when screw is removed.

First post here so please correct me if I am in the wrong place here to ask questions.
