Hey guys anyone have any idea why my security light is staying on in the car when is running? Just got it back and a bunch of things aren’t working properly now like the reverse lights, trans temp sensor, paddle shifters and the security light stays on. Posted something in the tech section but figured I’d throw the security light question in here. The car sat outside for almost 4 weeks at the shop and there’s some sort of acid rain spots that won’t even buff off all over the car too, not sure what to use to remove it. Rubbing compound won’t work either… Car just had an A6 rebuilt transmission put in it. (2007 base) Security light stays on when running Something baked into the paint and wont buff out Acid rain spots? Can’t get it off…

I’m thinking the no reverse lights, trans not recognizing paddle shifters and no transmission temp something must be unplugged. I’ve never noticed the security light staying on and that may be something separate. The paint is screwed, i tried some rubbing compound but the spots are etched into the paint all over the car. I just had the hood, fenders, roof and front bumper repainted a few months ago and that along with the original paint is damaged. The car was fully detailed with multiple coats of meguiars ultimate wax and now it’s a disaster on top of the other issues. The battery is only four months old and didn’t go dead while sitting. No battery drain issues on this 07’ thank God.
Take it back to the shop that did the work and let them handle it…we would only be guessing here…sounds like a connector is unplugged.
What he said.
They are responsible for care of your car while in their possession. That includes the spots on the paint. Get a quote from a detailer or body shop to fix that before you take the car back.
If it sat outside for 4 weeks and now you're having electrical issues, I'd have the battery tested.
As with any electrical glitches like this, the first thing I’d suspect is the battery, especially after sitting for 4 weeks with no battery tender on it. I too suggest you pull the battery, and have a load test done on it.
I took the car to a body shop he recommended and they told me about $3,000 to wet sand the whole car and if that doesn’t work it needs to be repainted which will cost over $10k. I bought some meguiars scratch x and a better orbital, seems most of it can be buffed out but not all. I’m about to tackle the job myself as I’m a detailer but feel I should be compensated for my time and supplies. I would charge someone $500 for the job I’m about to undertake.
Anyone have any idea what the security light staying lit actually means? Random things are not working like the rear trunk release button stopped functioning but fuel door button worked. Shut off the car and restarted it and the button worked. All i know is all these things functioned properly before the trans swap. I hope a rodent didn’t get into the wiring, i smelled a funny rodent urine smell when I first washed the car last night. There was also pieces of pollen all over the inside of the car and in the hatch area which leaves me wondering how did all of that get into the car in the first place! Looked like the car was left wide open for weeks, I’m really upset. Will bring it down tonight to be load tested and check all the codes. Thanks everyone
The SECURITY telltale appears on the instrument cluster. If the SECURITY telltale flashes or if the SECURITY telltale lights continuously during the vehicle operation, there is a problem with the immobilizer system and it should be serviced by the dealer. The SECURITY telltale is a dual purpose indicator, and with the ignition OFF, it is controlled by the content theft deterrent system. With the ignition ON it is controlled by the immobilizer system.
C6 Diag, you are an electrical genius I swear. Well the theft system I don’t think would cause all the issues mentioned but whatever is going on could be causing that as well. Tried a different fob with no change. Tried disconnecting the battery and touching the two terminals together for power drain and no change either. Funny thing is one time i started the car leaving the shop my old personalized name from years ago popped up on the dic. Next start the current startup name showed properly. The car has pollen pieces all inside the car and the hatch area which I cannot find an explanation for and we did get some moderate rains while it was there but not in the past week. Possibly the window wasnt closed all the way as a reindexing was not performed? There is a lot going on, prior to this the only issue i’ve had electrically was the high beams not working when fuse box gets hot and that hasn’t changed in years. This really sucks and i’m sick to my stomach seeing my car this way. Time to go and try to remove this acid rain baked into the paint. Thanks everyone
Well electrical is one of my passions but I'll try to see what may be going on with all those different items not working....having a factory level scan tool would help immensely but the shop that did the trans work is a "comeback" for them...let them get the car up in the air and see if something is unplugged...they should be fixing it and not you !!...let me see if this a power or a ground issue or one connector that ties everything together....if the window was open I'd take that shop to court and let them take it somewhere to get repaired like an auto electric shop...they would be clueless !!!
Thanks again, i can’t be 100% sure the window was open while there but with the amount of pollen and even leaves in the car (hatch area, seats etc) something had to be open. It was fully detailed when dropped off. On a good note I was able to buff out all the paint damage with a 3000 rpm orbital and scratch x. Here’s some before and after pics, ended up costing me $150 and a few hours.

Trans seems to be leaking more oil now then it originally was and there is no plug on the bottom of this pan which I have not heard of on a 6L80 because that is how you check the fluid levels. Could this be a truck transmission they used with a corvette bellhousing? I mentioned the vin programming etc and was told it was all done. Sounds to me like the trans isn’t communicating and causing electrical issues.

If some modules were not talking to the TCM you'd be seeing some "U" codes.
