Default High pressure power steering lines.

2007 base vert. I have the infamous power steering leak. I see the updated long high pressure line. Why can’t you just put steel braid line between the pump and steering column. Why run such a long line???

Because the short line had a problem with leaking in the first place.
So longer line allows the line to have more flexing, that over it lift time to not cause problems as the rubber to steel liner ferules.
Hence engine is still moving on the motor mounts up top with pump in tow, line/rack is on the chassis solid, and the longer line allow for the motor to dance all it wants on the mounts, to not cause problems with the line having problems instead .

As for longer line, you can get after market for less than $50,


Or just spend a little more, and get the line with cooler (it bolts in the same location points as the longer line bolt points), that is used on the Z51 option cars to keep the fluid cooler as well.

I get why they changed it. I’m asking why can’t you use braided steel lines. Why go from steel tubes to rubber then back to tubing? Steel braided lines should be flexible enough to run directly from pump to steering shaft….no????

Its the sharp bend as the center of line, where is need to come back around in limited space, that you may end up with the flex line not having enough bend, to not have a pinch point on that sharp of a bend. Plus, ferrule at that point in the line of hard to flex line, great place for the needed line suport.
