Default Door Opener

I have a 2009 base coupe. Not long after I got it I replaced the touch pads for opening on both doors. All good. Today when leaving work the driver's door would not open. The window would retract, but the door would not open. The passenger door opened fine, and I reached through and manually opened the door. The inside button would not open it either, just retract the window. Thoughts? Thanks!

There is an actuator in the door sill that may have gone bad. My 2009 driver side door actuator failed and I had to replace it with a GM OEM 2004-2013 GM Front Driver Side Door Lock - 88956758.

Check out your actuator and see if that could be the problem.

This will help you find the cause if you have a factory level or aftermarket equivalent scan tool...you can look at the door inputs this way...if this testing is over your head seek out an auto electric shop !!...this is about all we can do for you...you must do the testing.

Circuit/System Testing

Door Latch Inoperative from Exterior Door Handle Switch
  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate exterior door handle switch.
  2. Verify that a test lamp illuminates between B+ and the ground circuit terminal C.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  3. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Exterior Door Handle switch parameter is Inactive.
    • If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal D for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the door control module.
  4. Verify the RCDLR scan tool Exterior Door Handle switch parameter is Inactive.
    • If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal A for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the remote control door lock receiver.
  5. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal D and ground terminal C. Verify the scan tool Exterior Door Handle switch parameter is Active.
    • If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the appropriate door control module.
  6. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal A and ground terminal C. Verify the RCDLR scan tool Exterior Door Handle Switch parameter is Active.
    • If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the remote control door lock receiver.
  7. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the exterior door handle switch.
Door Latch Inoperative from Interior Door Handle Switch
  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate interior door handle switch.
  2. Verify that a test lamp illuminates between B+ and the ground circuit terminal A.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  3. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Interior Door Handle Switch parameter is Inactive.
    • If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal C for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the appropriate door control module.
  4. Verify the RCDLR scan tool Interior Door Handle Switch parameter is Inactive.
    • If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal B for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the remote control door lock receiver.
  5. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal C and ground terminal A. Verify the scan tool Interior Door Handle Switch parameter is Active.
    • If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the door control module.
  6. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal B and ground terminal A. Verify the RCDLR scan tool Interior Door Handle Switch parameter is Active.
    • If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the remote control door lock receiver.
  7. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the interior door handle switch.
