Default Modules not communicating in C6

Have a 2006 C6 Z51 convertible in shop. Battery appears good, lights come on and all. When pushing start button, nothing happens: no noise, no flicker, no nothing. Had similar issue not too long ago. On whim, suspected it might be in fuse box which had been giving me troubles with broken wires. Opened it, found broken wire, repaired it and car started right up. So when this happened again, put in new fuse box. Wasn't it. So took to shop with lots of experience with vettes, tech put on scope (No further information) says he "can't access any of the modules in the car". Believes one of the control modules is stopping all others from communicating with the others.

Anyone suffer similar ailment?

Two lan bus in the car,

The first is the high speed lan bus on the tan/tan black wires,

If the car will start, then best guess, that lan bus is fine. If having problems with this bus, since obdII port is one side, ecm is end of line the other side, and if loosing coms from VCIM downwards, then check to see if VCIM connector was disconnected to delete it, someone jumped out the tan-tank black wires on the connector, and the jumpers have coming loose.

[img]https://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo180/mr_radon/IMG_0910.jpg[/img[

on a 2006, the vcim will be located to the right hand side behind the glove box.

If car will start, but not getting any com to say the dash cluster and such, then problem with the wire off the BCM for the class 2,

that first hits the X205 splice block to the left of the bose amp location for about half the items off the class 2,
Top left glowing thing that is clipped to plastic that picks up about have the items,

The second splice block X206 that picks up last of items around the dash gauge, behind to the right of the cluster itself.

And before going this far, keep in mind that scanner is picking up these two different lan buses off diffeent pins on the OBDII port. So problem may not be down line of the BCM, but problems with the obdII port pins/wires, or just corrosion on the BCM connector that leads back to the obdII port instead.

The last one, is if the car has been tuned, someone has locked the tune, and this will lock out any GM scann tools from working with the car.
easy way to check this, is to just putt a cheap scanner on the car to see if it works, and if it works, but GM tool does not, then locked tune, and if you can not find tuner that lock to tune to unlock it, then going to be a spendy road with having to send ECM off to be unlocked and erased, the oem firmware reflashed into the ECM once back in the car, then if needing to have car tuned for say after market parts that will require such, then finding a tuner to retune the car, and this time no locking the retune in the end.

These communication issues are common not only on GM’s but many other foreign and domestic cars these days…I think you mean scan tool and not “scope” as these are 2 completely different diagnostic tools….the battery “appears good” is not good enough…it must be load tested…the 3 "critical modules" needed for the car to start are the ECM,BCM and RCDLR…Corvette “Specialist” shops are unfortunately specialists at oil and brake changes but not electrical issues and this also holds true for 99.99% of most general repair shops and even dealerships….if “no comm” with any module have the tech disconnect the battery and with an ohm meter check the resistance of pins 6 and 14…he should see 60 ohms since there are 2 - 120 ohm resistors connected in parallel one being in the BCM and the other in the ECM…this checks the “physical layer” or wiring as we call it…on the 2 wire CAN or GM LAN the communication wires go into a module, through the module and out of the module…you should also see about 7000 ohms with ohm meter connected to pins 6 and then to pin 14 to either a body ground or pin 4 or 5 (chassis and signal ground) at the DLC…I had to search your profile and saw you have an A/T so the information bus is shown below..and BTW the VCIM is located in the right trunk cubby hole if you pull the carpet back just to clarify so you don’t go crazy looking for it if need be…there are a few other checks I do with the battery connected and car in ACCY mode you should be approximately 2.5 volts on pins 6 and 14…now if you see 120 ohms and getting back to resistance checks the best thing is to divide the information bus in half and see if you have a wiring issue or a single module is bringing the whole bus down…you could disconnect the module and see what modules may come back on line…to check the serial data bus on pin 2 the tech should see a 0-7 volt square wave in ACCY mode with a lab scope or with a voltmeter you will see fluctuating voltage of 0.2 to 0.7 volts..if your shop needs guidance I can PM you my number and I can walk them through the process or if I knew where you live I may know of a knowledgeable shop in your area…and it may be best just to pass along this info to your shop.

I’m “assuming” the Tech checked power to pin 16 at the DLC but the fuse to it is the Rear Fog/ALDL fuse in the BCM…maybe we are dealing with an actual no comm or a simple no start if you find out you do have communication…you may have the FTM (Folding Top Module) shorted to power or ground and that will take the serial bus down…if Tech sees 12 volts or ground on pin 2 that’s bad…he could unplug the module and see if the car starts !!…also seeing you have a vert that fuse also powers a few things in your folding top…Folding Top Control Switch if you have RPO code CM7 or Rear Fog Relay if you have RPO code T79…RPO codes are on a placard in your glovebox.

Forgot to include this picture….battery disconnected pin 2 on the serial data bus to pin 4 (chassis ground)….4.58 Kohms…4,580 ohms…anything less than 350 ohms most likely serial data bus is shorted to ground.

kInd of same diagram as the one that C5 diag posted for class 2 data bus,

Being that you have the class 2 data bus wire coming off the BCM to first splice block (bottom of diagram) that is next to the bose amp location in the passenger kick well area and to its modules, then you have the jumper wire from it, to the second splice block (left middle of diagram) behind the left hand side of the speedo cluster and the modules by the cluster that come off it.
