Default Bulletproofing a C6

Just bought a C6 basemodel lt2, I am planning on drifting the car and was wondering what I should do right away. longtubes, full exhaust, tint. Ive heard that I should replace the Shift bushings on both sides, The harmonic balancer is good, and ive heard to switch to a different starter as the stock one breaks with exhaust heat? (longtubes).
Now for the cooling. Oil cooler, trans cooler and thats it? Figured i wouldnt need a big radiator if I had the external oil cooler to help. Can someone explain how the transmission cooler ties in to the differential? Some are saying these cars have diff coolers, and some are saying they do not, others are saying that they come stock with oil and trans lines tied into the radiator, but I do not see anything. I know this is alot, but i have spent alot of time looking and cant find anything.

No such beast, since weak link on C6 is the rear diff, being you get into wheel hop, one of the rear tires gets a good bite, and the diff case is going to crack as the pinnon tries to ride up and over the pinon gear, to put that kind of torque/ pressure on the case itself.

You can install braces on the case to stiffen it when over torqued to blow case apart, but the second problem is the output shaft on the trans is very long, it's has the pinnon gear on it that far out, and again good bite to send over torque to trans, ends up with trans output shaft snapping instead.

And don't get me wrong, since I break the rear end loose on the C6's road course'g all the time, but is done under control to just break the rear end loose as needed, and not to hold the rear end way out with tires smoking to drift it around the corner sideways isntead.

So on that note, if plan is to turn Vet into drift car, then swap out rear end with solid rear end, that can take a ton of torque beatings without coming apart if tire does bite hard if you get into wheel hop.

As for diff coolers, base does not come with such, and really not what you need, being staying with the stock rear independent suspension/weak diff in the first place. Also the trans fluid and diff fluid are not the same, so can not tie the two together to work off one cooler.

As for drifting the car not a lot of power really needed, and just need to turn off Torque management in tune, hold T/C button down for 5 seconds to turn all the nannies off so you can hand the rear end way out, and re-throttle map it, so you can break the rear end at will isntead. LS2 has 411 hp stock, with long tube headers and a tune that number jumps to around 450hp with tune, no TM to hobble the instant power of the motor to the ground, and as stated, with throttle mapping de-soccor mom'd, breaking the rear end is not a problem with all the nanies off. Also, keep in mind that C6 has lift as speed, so the faster your goning, the easy it is to break the rear end (snap hook it around really) as well.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought that in the cars with diff coolers the diff oil was cooled by trans fluid. The trans fluid was cooled by the coolant in the rad, and there was basically a heat exchanger where the trans fluid cooled the diff oil. But I have a base car, so I can't say for certain

C6 diff, has it own pump on the back cover, and it own cooler on the side of the diff and is a close system to itself.

The diff uses this gear lube, being a formulated gear oil with slip agents to keep the LSD clutch packs quiet/break away values to 100ftlbs,

While the trans uses a much thinner Dexron VI atf fluid instead.

As for trans, cooler is the side compartment on the radiator in the front of the car.

On this radiator,
https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/nfMAA...0U/s-l1600.jpg
one side is for trans cooler, while other side is for engine oil cooler, before the Z51 cars moved the cooler to the side noise of the car for better cooling, while the Z06 uses a larger oil cooler across the entire nose of the car for engine oil cooling instead.

Also don't forget the power steering fluid cooler as well that your base car may not to start with.
.

From there, you get into the different gear ratios of the Z51/z06 trans and diffs, and great deal beefer parts in the diff to more bullet proof it when you end up jumping the apex curb , the better brakes with air ducting/wider tires/firmer suspension, and stiffer aluminum frames to start with.

Also, you can go with tires as wide as the Z06 on the car, but you have to have special off set rims made, to move the wider tires more inward on the car, since if protruding past the fenders at all, first hard bump to send the tires into the fender tips, will end up with the entire fenders shattering.

The other one, lesson leaned on the JL9/J55 brake calipers that are a carry over from the C5 with pistons only on one side.

That on the C5, not uncommon to get through a few sets of them in a year of track use, as the U part of the caliper would bend wider open from the heat in the first place.

This is why the Z06 went with double sided piston clam shell design, to prevent them from U bending open, and apply more pressure needed for the wider tires.
