Default AC Compressor swap, what else needs replaced?

I am going to replace my AC compressor. The snout where the compressor clutch rides on is ground down a bit so a new clutch assembly won’t fix it. I did NOT have an internal failure. The AC was ice cold and did not leak.

can I just replace the compressor with pre-filled oil or do I need to replace anything else? I have already evacuated the whole system.

Just dump out the old oil from the bad compressor and put the same amount into the new one and reinstall....too much is just as bad as not enough....as long as it is NOT an internal failure you should be OK....there is a TSB concerning this.

The compressor I am going to order is pre-filled with oil. Should I be concerned about adding or is there an actual way to verify the oil type & level is correct?

here is a link to the unit I was going to purchase but instead from rock auto and not amazon

As I mentioned however many ounces come out of the old compressor should be added to the new…as far as the type of oil there is no way I know of to determine that…I don’t think the type would be that critical whether the OE PAG oil or a universal type.

You will always want to change the DRIER anytime the system has been opened up, it is a limited life-span element of the A/C system, it gets used up in contact with water(desiccant gets used up) so when the system has been opened, the water from air accumulates and uses it up.

Next, the system needs to completely vacuumed out for hours using a vacuum pump. This is to remove any water from the air and also diagnose any leaking.
Once the system is completely sealed verified, and the water has been removed via strong vacuum pumping, you can add the A/C gas and oil as needed.

I like copilots description of what happens if you leave the water

I've always heard the ice crystals forming can damage components and block orifices
