I've received my first engine light on my 2008 base corvette during my time owning it. I got a P0336 code. Meaning my crankshaft position sensor went bad. I have ordered and received a GM sensor, but have no clue how to replace or even where the sensor is located on the car. Haven't been able to find any specific videos for my car, or at least none that aren't confusing. Any advice or videos? I can answer any questions if needed.
It's behind the starter motor. You will have to remove the starter motor to get at the CKP. After replacing the CKP, you are supposed to do a crankshaft position relearning procedure. You will need a tech 2 or other capable device for that procedure. I have heard of people replacing the CKP without doing a relearn, so I can't say for sure whether it is absolutely needed.
First thing if you ordered the sensor off Amazon or EBay send it back…it is junk and will not work !!…the CKP is located above the starter so that will have to be removed…now this DTC can also be a wiring issue not a bad sensor…you will also need to do a “Crankshaft Variation Learn” with a factory level or equivalent aftermarket scan tool…I can recommend someone in Pasadena if this may be over your head…if you want to just replace the sensor you have a 50-50 shot of being successful.

You beat me to the punch by a few minutes…a relearn is needed since the crank sensor is the ECM “misfire monitor”…if not accomplished you may wind up with “phantom misfires”…misfire that count up on a scan tool but none that are actually felt.

Would it be worthwhile to perform the relearn with the old CKP still in place to see if that solves the problem?
I ordered a gm genuine from rockauto. I don't trust amazon for car parts or the autozone guy that tried selling me the part. It seems I might benefit better from taking the car and part to a shop and just have them do the replacement. I don't have any of the tools and I'm north of Houston.
