Default Veraram or not

Really hope I’m not beating one of those dead horses or too big of can of worms but i did a thread search and didn’t find much though. The ‘08 i recently acquired had a Vararam already installed and looks like it was done pretty well. Anyway took it off to check filter and noticed there was a little dirt around the outside of the throttle body and got me wondering if it really has a good enough filter to filter all the stuff that ram air is scooping up. Thinking about putting something else on it. And honestly its kind of a PITA to check compared to most others. Thoughts ?

My 2011 GS had a Vararam when I got it but also had the original complete air filter box in the back. Whoever installed the Vararam did a hack job on the hole in the shroud and the clamp on one side was broke so I removed it and put original air box back on. Had to cover hole in shroud with a sheet of black plastic off Amazon. The screen on the Vararam filter had some rust marks on it so there must have been some water getting to the filter which is not surprising how close the filter is to the opening. I don't drag race, etc.. so not interested in the performance gain ? and more interested in clean air to engine and original engine cooling performance.

I used to run that exact setup.

I am running the intake that came with my Eforce now but I modified the Haltech shroud that I had to fit. It works well.
