Question for anyone about a/c control unit. According to dealer I need a replacement. The Chevy dealer says you can't use a used unit unless it has been refurbished as they say each unit is VIN specific. Does anyone know where you can buy a refurbished unit or can you actually use a used unit?
Being lied to, since you can flash any used module to the car to marry it to the BCM security code when needed.
TIS2000 will flash all the modules in the car without problems up to 2008 on the C6, while the latest TDS for later year cars, on some modules you have to first go in with DPS to change the vin number on something like a ECM may need, then flashes fine with TDS SPS.
And if GM dealer, then they have both access to TDS SPS, as well as DPS as well.
As for HVAC controller, problem may not be with it, but something simple like just needs it connector cleaned, or may have to pull it apart to check the solder joints for a cold solder joint that needs to be re-flowed, or even more simple like a loose ribbon cable that needs to be pushed back into it connector.
I replaced my AC control module due to mine having really faded and damaged buttons, bought a mint used one on eBay from a 2011, mine is a 2005. It was quite literally plug and play, no programming or issues at all. It is easy to get to and pull out.
I still have my old one, it works perfectly fine buttons are just worn. If you want I could ship it to you for you test if it fixes your issue before drop big bucks on a better one. All I would ask is you pay for shipping, and if you keep it no big deal it has been on my shelf for months now.
