2006 base car. I just finished replacing the bulbs in the HUD and center display controls. I had one burn out. I originally only replaced the bulbs on the side that burned out, but when I reassembled it one on the other side had failed, so I recommend replacing all the bulbs. Total of 9 bulbs.
The soldering is pretty easy, but I recommend a real solder station rather than a cheap soldering iron. I didn’t use a solder sucker. I removed the old bulbs , added a little solder to each pad, and then held the bulb on the opposite side on the board with my fingers and just set the bulb wires into the melted solder. You have to hold the bulb centered in the hole for the white bulb support to fit into place. The bulb wires fit into the white bulb supports as shown in the pictures, so fold the over to hold the white bulb supports before you trim the wires.
The difficult parts are getting all the connectors off the bezel and opening up the button enclosures. I broke one of the enclosure tabs, but it still snapped together well enough. I sprayed a tiny amount of WD40 into the tabs in the hope that it would come apart more easily, The bezel just pulls out from the dash, but it takes a pretty good pull.
That's neat. The top right most light is out on mine. I never looked inside to see how to replace it but this don't look too bad. Like you mentioned, I'm sure be careful with the plastic is probably the hardest part.
My question isn’t about bulb replacement but the HUD itself. Bought a 2006 C6 two months ago and within that time the display quit showing an image. Any thoughts? The mirror is still attached and flips back into place after manually moving it. The up-down switch doesn’t move it, the fuse seems to be ok, the DIC feature lights up and shows the various functions - I don’t see a light on within the unit. Could it be a loose connection or….?
I've heard of some huds failing. Without pulling it and testing it, I don't know of a good solution here. You don't have to pull the dash. There's are write up on cutting the over cluster duct with a wire saw, then you use industrial grade, literally tin duct tape to close it back up. If you take it to a dealer they'll tell you the dash needs to come out.

@Scott S Thanks for making your post. I just replaced a bulb and this write up was crucial prework to making this pretty darn easy. Thank you sir.
