In some of my research it was said that LUK is the manufacturer of the GM LS7 clutch kit, or possibly it was they were the second source for GM.
In looking at clutch kits, I have seen some that say GM in the description and as you read closely, you see the are LUK.
Is the LUK the same parts? Is there a difference? Anyone have experience with LUK.
I am running a LS3 around 500HP. I want the clutch to last as I don't want to do this job again in a few years.
I installed the GM LS7 clutch kit with flywheel from Tick Performance this summer in my 2006 Z06. An examination of the old clutch revealed that it was an LUK piece, so I think someone had replaced the clutch before me. I do not know if the LUK clutch was a normal duty type or performance. The main difference that I noticed between these two clutches is that the pedal effort was less with the new GM LS7 clutch. I also noticed an improvement with smoothness and engagement control with the new GM clutch, but it is hard to attribute all of that to the clutch itself because I also installed a new reduced-effort clutch pedal spring and a new clutch master cylinder, and new motor mounts at that time. I have detected no slippage under hard acceleration with the new GM LS7 clutch, and I expect it will have very good longevity.

The original factory clutch in my '06 6.0L was stamped LuK. LuK is the original equipment manufacturer.
I replaced it with a LuK clutch kit at 140K miles just because I was in there. It could have done another 140K. The new parts in the yellow LuK boxes were identical. Same logo stampings, same everything. Flywheel too.
6.0L cars and Z06s used the same clutch (p/n 24248985) and flywheel (p/n 12571611). So by the transitive property, they must also be made by LuK.

@torquetube Thanks. I was hoping I could get some confirmation on that. I don't see a need to spend a few hundred dollars more to get the same parts.
When. 57k on the car and 10k on the McLeod clutch.
Why. The clutch was worn out. It was slipping very badly if I gave it gas.
Why did it fail? That’s a little harder to answer. Could have been me, could have been the previous owner that had it installed. Could have been something done wrong with the installation. Probably bad technique at the track by me, but not really sure. I’ve had a few theories. No real way to prove what really happened.
Good news is the new stock clutch has smoothed things out and I’m very happy with everything now. It was a bit of work, but not too bad and I’m very happy with the outcome.
