Default C6 cold weather door lock & start problems

I own a 2008 convertible, and I live in New England. Most of the year I have no problems opening my door or starting the engine. When the weather gets cold (below 35 degrees) is when the problems start. It will not let me open the driver's door, so I have to park it in the garage with the driver's window down so I can reach in and open the door with the mechanical latch on the floor. Once inside it will not allow me to start the engine displaying "Fob Not Recognized" on the instrument panel. Then I put the fob in the slot in the glove compartment, and it allows me to start the engine. Once I get it started and the heater warms up the car, all the problems go away, until the next day when the same problems start all over again. I have already cleaned the RCDLR jacks and plugs with contact cleaner and coated them with dielectric grease with no luck. Has anybody out there experienced these same problems? What corrects this problem?

I know for my car I have to replace the door actuator thingy that shuts the door and opens it; it is quite worn out and might need to replace one of the door hinge bracket things as well. I know this may sound cliche but you're in NE and that kills batteries, ensure your battery provides a full 12.5v to get the car to crank, and that the alternator is providing it with enough juice a swell to charge it back up.
getting to check your battery starter and alt is a good idea and adding a big kit for good panache won't hurt.

There are a few TSB's related to your concern so you are not the first with this issue...you first want to make sure your battery is good and has been load tested...also make sure your FOB battery is at least 3.2 to 3.3 volts...is the FOB kept in the house during these low temps ??

INFORMATION

Bulletin No.: 10-08-52-004

Date: October 04, 2010

Subject: Diagnostic Information on No Remote Detected or No Fob Detected or No Fobs Detected Message on DIC / Electrical Interference with a Cell Phone, MP3 Player or Other 12 Volt Charger Plugged In

Models:
2010-2011 Buick LaCrosse
2004-2009 Cadillac XLR
2005-2011 Cadillac STS
2010-2011 Cadillac SRX
2005-2011 Chevrolet Corvette

Condition

Some customers may comment about a temporary no start condition with a "No Remote Detected" or "No Fobs Detected" or No Fob Detected" message on the DIC.

Electrical Interference Concern

Certain brands of cell phone chargers may produce electromagnetic interference (EMI) or radio frequency interference (RFI) that can disrupt the electrical systems within the vehicle. This interference may cause a no start condition with a "No Remote Detected" message on the DIC. The interference created by the use of these chargers may be intermittent and random. The concern may be present with or without the phone connected to the charger.

Disconnect the cell phone charger from the vehicle and evaluate the customer concern. If the concern is corrected, advise the customer that OEM cell phone chargers, provided by the cell phone manufacturer, typically have additional filtering to eliminate this type of interference. Avoid the use of low quality charging devices.

Notice
This type of interference may be encountered with charging devices for cell phones, MP3 players, GPS units, DVD Players, etc. The device does not need to be plugged into the charger to create this interference, only the charger need be plugged into the 12 volt power point of the vehicle. Moving the key fob away from the charger as far as possible may correct the condition.

Important
Placing the transmitter in the transmitter pocket (found in the console storage area or I/P storage compartment on Corvette/XLR) will allow the vehicle to start even under interference conditions.

# PIC5961: NO FOB DETECTED Message On DIC Possible No Crank Start - (Feb 4, 2014)

Subject: NO FOB DETECTED Message On DIC Possible No Crank Start Models: 2004 - 2009 Cadillac XLR 2005 - 2013 Chevrolet Corvette

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern

Some customers may comment of a "NO FOB DETECTED" message when attempting to start the vehicle. Vehicle may not crank/start and the vehicle's doors may not open through passive entry. However, the vehicle will always start when the fob is placed in the IP compartment pocket. This concern may be the cause of a transistor that is internal to the RCDLR module not operating properly.

Recommendation/Instructions

1.Be sure the vehicle battery is adequately charged to start vehicle.

2.Remove the battery from the key fob / transmitter. Using a DVOM, measure the voltage. Be sure the key fob battery voltage is between 2 to 3 volts. If not, replace the battery. Test operation of the vehicle again prior to moving on to step 3. If the vehicle no longer exhibits a concern, the vehicle is repaired. If the vehicle still has a concern, proceed to step 3.

3.While in the vehicle with a known good fob (not placed in the IP compartment pocket), press the Start Button. Listen for a click noise or a series of click noises from the RCDLR. If there is only ONE CLICK (instead of a series of clicks), then the transistor internal to the RCDLR is not operating properly. For this condition, replace the RCDLR module with current GM CCA stock.

RCDLR module locations are listed below.

- The Corvette RCDLR is located above the radio behind the IP trim on the right side.

- The XLR RCDLR is located on the top right of IP under upper IP pad.

My biggest question is why this only happens in cold weather? If something was electrically wrong, wouldn't it happen all the time?

When cold these connectors contract and may cause pin fitment issues (connection issues)

I've read online that some guys have successfully shimmed the connectors to the RCDLR when having a cold weather connection problem. Does anyone know where to put the shims?
