So about a year ago I did a 228/228r cam, btr 7.400 push rods, btr .660 spring kit on my 2005 ls2 c6. Never replaced the lifters so I thought it was lifter tick not valve train. Opened up to valve covers today to see that most if not all of my retainers have scratches and gouges in them. Summit states that the cam can be put in with everything else stock. Preload on the lifters is .050 and I torqued each lifter to 22 ft Ibs after valve lash. It seems like the retainers are contacting the rocker arms. Do you guys think a 7.425 push rod would fix this or do I just need new rocker arms ? Really confused on how this is happening I had no contact issues when installing and measuring each rocker and push rod already checked preload after running it for 100 miles again and checked it once again today still good maybe the lifters are bad ? Any help is appreciated as always thanks.
You can see a very large gap between the rocker arm and the retainer. And with the valves fully closed, you should be able to measure the gap as with the valves closed, that should be the closest that the rockers get to the retainers.
Are you sure the retainers weren't already scratched before you installed them?
Simple to check if its hitting the rocker, take a rocker off. there should be marks on the bottom of the rocker if there isn't those where installed that way.
