Hi, was unable to find this problem searching the site.
I was pulled over twice now to be told my brake lights were on while cruising. After much inspection I discovered that yes indeed they are stuck on, BUT they go off when I step on the pedal twice and then appear to be working normally. HOWEVER they come back on again after 5 sec and stay on until I brake a couple times but then back to stuck on after 5 sec..
I have replaced the brake light switch and this morning I replaced the brake light relay to no avail.
Has anyone had this problem and what can I do to fix it? Thanks!
It is not really a brake "switch" but a sensor...did you perform a sensor "calibration" ??...you need to use factory service information...you will need a factory level scan tool to do this.
So I've heard people refer to a Tech 3 Scanner?? Is that what you're referring to? I'm prepared to buy one. I use HP Tuners but that doesn't get to the body computer.

It's a Tech 2 and there are aftermarket scan tools like Autel or Launch that will do this...any automotive shop can do this do ask them and see what they would charge...will be less than buying a scan tool.
Got it but I always do my own work. I have other reasons for wanting the Tech 2. Vent actuators, temporary active suspension issues, etc.
Taking my car to any shop here in Tucson is a PITA. I will shop online to see what comes up. THANKS!!
Looking on line prices are all over the map.. Seems I need the scanner along with CANDI tool and software package right? Gonna pay well over 400 bucks but is that everything I need??

With a C6 you will need the Candi Module since the C6 uses the CAN bus protocol...there is no software that needs to be installed...for that price you are buying a "Chinese Clone" Tech 2...a real Tech 2 may run near 2K if you can find one...I rarely use my Tech 2 but use my aftermarket ones that are touchscreen with much bigger screens themselves.
One of my scan tools is the Autel MS906...it's built in as all of your newer factory level scan tools have...you can get a decent bidirectional Autel for $500.00 or a little less.
Brake lights are an essential part of safe operation of a vehicle.
