They don't make much noise, but they're easy to examine, if you lean over the passenger fender and watch it, when the engine is running. If you see it move at all, then it's not a bad idea to replace it with a quality aftermarket unit. (An "underdrive" unit isn't advised if you want you're A/C to be as good as it was previously.)
If you replace it with an OEM unit, expect to replace it again, down the line.
If I was you, get it check, mind made whining noise, sorry to say ignored till decided to do thousand of dollars to damage, destroying my A/C compressor crank pulley lot more.
Get it checked if asked you must be concerned so get it checked for peace of mind.
I went back and took a look at the harmonic balance and it was wobbling. The dealer said he can take off $1000 if I like
Replacement of the HB by a reputable Corvette specialty shop runs around $2K to $2.5K...at least here in the NJ area. Make a counter offer to discount by that amount. If the wobble is obvious, as it sounds lie it is, you will need to have the replacement done. And DO NOT use the GM OEM pulley....use PowerBond or ATI.
