I would be willing to bet all of the posted numbers are for the standard C6. The Z51 C6 will be better due to the better tires and better tranny ratios.

:iagree:

I read that magazines will not be allowed to drive (and therefore, test) the new C6 until sometime in early May. That would give a publication date of "mag tests" about 1 month before GM's stated shipping date for the C6.

3.4 to 3.6 for the new Z??? Bout the same time the Enzo runs.... sure, why not!!!! Let's start talking now about the Blue Dev DREAM running 0-60 in 2.5 or something.... 60-0 in 45 feet.... lat G = 1.25... 0-100-0 7.5. Yep! It'll happen.

Cracks me up!

Yep! That 0-60 time is all important for all those daily launches when the signal turns green.

I know 3.4 is too low or 3.5, but why couldn't it be 3.6? I know the Enzo is 3.3. First off, the 04' Z has 405hp and weighs over 3000pds and does it in 3.9. What would be your genius guess for a car that weighs hopefully less than 3000pds and has 500hp or more? I would say a hell of a lot faster than this year's Z. I don't know about you.
Cracks me up!

When you get into this range, 0-60 time is going to be much more related to the ability to get traction than anything eles, which is an advantage that some of the mid engine cars have off the line. Here is an interesting calculator that estimates your 0-60 time from your 1/8 mile et and mph. http://www.teamnabr.com/modules.php?...showpage&pid=8
Using one of my time slips I got a 3.21 0-60. Now that was at the drag strip but it was not on a drag tire.

Current Z runs 0-60 in 3.9??? Keep dreaming! Why do so many of you seem happy with made-up results on this car? Don't you want one that actually can run with the big boys??? The new Viper runs it in 3.9 and it's A LOT FASTER than the Z, easy .5 second in the 1/4 mile. Handles way better, stops way better... IS way better! A twin turbo Porsche and Ferrari 360 run 0-60 in 4.0. The Z is around 4.2 and that's prob being kind.

If GM actually produces a 500 HP version of the Corvette (and I still doubt they will in 2006) it'll come in around 3,150 lbs and run 0-60 in 3.9 - 4.0. Current Z isn't 3,000 it's more like 3,100. Just how do you expect GM to increase the power by 25% in the engine and cut it to under 3,000 lbs??? Ask Ford how easy that is too do...

However, this should catch the Z up to the Viper, Porsche, and Ferrari's on the road..... of course they have been running those times for years and the Z is still years (and a lot of dreaming) away.

Keep going though.. love being cracked up!

I'm sorry man, but you're way off. I've been at the track numerous times and seen the 0-60 of numerous stock Z06s. Another thing, the viper weighs in at 3400pds. So, this is why the 0-60 is the same as a Z06. Another thing, Corvettes DO run with the big boys any day of the week! Another thing, the viper has a 483 cubic inch engine, that may be the reason it pulls ahead in the quarter. And if they build a new Z, it'll definitely not weigh 30 pds less than the stock C6. And you sound very much against corvettes. Speakin of the next Z, which will most likely be 3000pds or less, because of carbon fibre, etc. Plus it'll be $60k or more, which is why it will be so fast. Gee, I wonder what that extra $15 to $20K could be for? Maybe, uh, major engine improvements, and weight reduction, not to mention wider tires in rear which would aid in pulling off a time of 3.6s. Another thing, take 400pds off the viper, see what it runs. The new Z will be better than that. Another thing, if you didn't notice, the C6 weight is less than the C5 weight, and has a lot more hp. There's not much you'd have to do anyways to make that 6.0L a 500hp beast, let alone a 6.3L or even 7L.
The fact is, in Corvette language, that for the price that a new Z will be, you will get a car that equals or betters by far the ram truck, I mean SRT-10 or most Ferraris, and whatever else you want to compare it to. There are so many places on that car to cut weight, I wouldn't even know where to begin.
As said by Lutz "the C6 will suck the doors off the SRT-10." Which, in english means, it will be a good amount faster, to me atleast. Now if the SRT-10 does 0-60 in 3.9, a good amount faster would be 3.6, or in that ballpark.
P.S.
C5 Vert-4.9s-$51k
C5 Coupe-4.7s-$44k
385hp Z-4.2s-$52k
405hp Z-3.9s-$53k
360 Modena-4.2s$200k
911 Turbo-3.9s-$130k
BTW-I checked these at many credible sources. I think you pulled your 0-60 times for those cars out of your azz. And no, the Z is not years behind any of those cars. And no, I wasn't dreaming. Have a nice day. Oh, and I wouldn't ask Ford anything, after seein the heap of junk new Mustang comin out, and the copied Ford GT. Again, have a nice day. You are the weakest link, goodbye.

lol gee you really told me! Difficult to read though.... what are you 13?

The 0-60 times I posted are those published after testing by several of the rags..

I brought up Ford and weight because of the GT. Last year it was going to be < 3,000 lbs ... then it was 3,000... then it was close to 3,000... now that they are finished it's well north of 3,000.

The Z is a great car for the $$$ but against these other cars it's way behind. I own a Viper... and a 2002 Corvette coupe (driven a Z 1000 times), and I am taking delivery of a new Porsche Turbo in April, so sorry son but I am in the know. You are what 99% of those who post as you do are.... a poser.

And owned.

 I'm sorry, I know you've only had about 90 posts or so, but I drive a brand new CLK55 AMG. My wife drives an SL600. No, I'm not 13 :lolg: . Viper is a great car, so is the 02 vette. Turbo is also great. Good luck with it. Why wouldn't you wait on a new C6 anyways? Say with the Z51 package.
I know my post was hard to read. My time is worth more than the sentence structure of my posts on this thread.

I will look at a C6 when they're around to be test driven. Buying another Vette isn't like buying a new Porsche Turbo though... just a different league in many ways (especially price) to me. I have owned 4 Corvettes but this will be my first Porsche. I would always dream of owning a Corvette and knew that some day I would but a Porsche Turbo was something I kinda never even bothered to dream about... A $130,000 car just seemed unlikely. But things have been good so I am gettin one and keeping the Viper.

The reason I am hard on the Z is because I really want to buy one! I want GM to make the car I know they can.... one that again takes over the top spot for American production cars. Like it or not it's been the Viper for quite some time now. The Ford GT is an AMAZING car but it's only due for a 3 year production run. It is going to come and go but DC will surely roll-out a Coupe version of the GenIII Viper (prob just in time for the new Z) and it's going to be at least 550/550..etc.. etc.. Owning a Viper is great but Corvette is what American sports cars are all about. Their should be a model that goes WAY beyond the 35,000 unit a year model and the C5 Z comes close (took a few years though) but not close enough.

Additionally, I will wait until at least production year #2 for a C6.... I have seen way too many year 1 production problems with both Corvette a Viper.

Trust me, I know the Vette and the Porsche, along with Ferraris and all those other cars are in different leagues. That is, style, quality, name, refinement, and price wise. The looks of the vette are as good as the porsches and cars like that. I've also driven a Turbo, and a Z06 many times. I think the ride of the Z is just as mean as the Turbo. Now the Z doesn't have as cool of a sound, or that really cool spoiler, or that wide azz end, and it doesn't have the name, but for the money, you can't beat it. Actually, I really loved driving the E55 AMG. My buddy has one, and tears apart C5s all the time. Along with most other cars. I'm definitely gettin a Black C6 though. By the way, another buddy of mine has a Turbo makin 720hp. I don't quite remember what it's called though, I think he has Stage III turbo upgrade. Do you have any plans on modding your Turbo?

Not sure about mods on the Porsche yet. A Stage one would be relatively inexpensive and it'll bring it up too nearly 500 HP. However, even these are only mods to the computer and such it will prob violate the 4 year 50,000 mile warrantee. So, I am not sure. If I do add and power it will be after prob the first year, after I have had time to break the car in and decide if it's a keeper.

Cause next up in the collection will either be a Ford-GT or a 6.0 Diablo!!!
