I wonder why on chevys comparion they show 360TQ for the 04 LS1, and not say that is for the auto. The manual is 375TQ because it doesnt require tq managment. I imagine the 400TQ for the C6 is the manual spec. So they should compare apples to apples.

Remember when someone posted that he saw 472 hp on a dyno from an LS2?
Where does that fit?

All numbers are conservative. The LS1 puts out more than 350 FWHP stock. Do simple mods like exhaust and intake and you can achieve at least 5% more HP.
The 4L60E can handle 450 FWHP (especially with a shift kit and PCM programming). The 4L65E is an enhanced version featuring addition clutches and hardened output shaft and will easily handle the LS2 output.

Transmissions, manual or automatic are rated by torque capacity and maximum input shaft speed, not horsepower.

I think this is just the opposite. The head design on the LS2 all ready incorporates something most of the aftermarket tuners try to do when porting/polishing the heads, unshouded valves. That coupled with more possibilities in the intake region(C6 is not a dedicated bottom breather), I think many bolt ons will show very similar gains on the new motor and more extensive mods like cams will show even better results.
The nice thing about the LS2 is the increased bore. From being a long time LS1 fan and participating in several F-bodies with various mod'd LS1's, the LS1/LS6 responds to bore increases much better than stroke increases. The LS2 is going to have some midrange power that is going to make the LS1/LS6 guys wonder where their midrange is, IMO. Once the cam grinders reposition the cam flags for the new LS2 sensor placement, the cams are going to be providing some awesome numbers. I bet we see 500rwhp heads/cam C6 Vette's by the end of this year.

Hope your right about the bolt ons, but I doubt it. I'll go along with you on the internal mods though. Lingenfelter is going to love toying with it for his less expensive mods.
Well, his company will be at least :blueangel: Hopefully he'll still guide over them in spirit

I'd say about 360 RWHP max.
If its more than that, it would be pretty awesome. :yesnod:

I would be willing to bet this was a engine dyno report on one of the test mules for this motor. I am sure the LS2 has much higher limits of power than what we will see for a while, but GM has to "detune" the engines for the masses. Reliability, smoothness, and flexability enter into the General's guidlines for the engine leaving out the peaky, higher horse enigne specs.....

If I'm remembering correctly, it was specifically said that the 4L65E has been upgraded to handle the 400 ft/lbs that the LS2 puts out.

Re: LS1 to LS2, what do you think the real HP numbers will be? (JLinNY)
Looking at all the improvements I'd say the LS2 will definately dyno higher than an LS6. The only thing that could possibly hold it back is a conservative cam even if they're saying it has a higher lift. My 2000 F-Body Formula has a higher lift cam than the 01-03 LS1 F-bodies but the cam in those cars makes slightly more hp and has a lower lift. Since the displacement has been increased though they can go to a bigger cam sotck and still meet emisions requirements.
Seeing how the whole intake track is larger with bigger filters, a much larger throttle body, an improved intake over the LS6, LS6 type head castings, more displacement, and better exhaust manifolds than the LS6 it seems almost impossible that the 400hp isn't just a low ball rating. All the components of the engine are bigger and better than the LS6 except for the 100rpm decline in redline and the as of yet unknown cam specs.
To keep the power down to 400bhp they would seriously have to cork the engine in some way to keep it from easily surpassing the LS6.
I'm gonna bet 360rwhp+(6-speeds) if not 370+, just depends on the cam selection. I also bet cam swaps on the LS2 will net huge gains if the cam ends up being the cork to keep the hp down.

Re: LS1 to LS2, what do you think the real HP numbers will be? (bluemax750)
For reference I used a set of Victor Jr. heads, which flow about the same as the LS6 head, maybe a little less without porting, a cam profile that matches the LS6 cam, so it's smaller than the LS2 cam and a 10.9 compression ratio. It cleared 500 hp at 6000 rpm and cleared 450 ft-lbs of torque at 5500 rpm.

It is also going to be interesting to see how much the new computer interfers with the automatic equipped vehicles. If the engine is truely underrated, then the PCM will be pulling back a lot of parameters near the shift to keep the 380ft/lb input rated 4L65E within GM specs :smash:

Re: LS1 to LS2, what do you think the real HP numbers will be? (BLK 98WS6)
I'll make another prediction about the LS2 even without the cam specs. The LS6 can get to about 395-405rwhp with full bolt-ons and a good tune. I bet the LS2 easliy breaks 400rwhp with just full bolt-ons.

Re: LS1 to LS2, what do you think the real HP numbers will be? (SWCDuke)
Stock LS6 engines average about 355 RWHP SAE J604d corrected so LS2 will probably average about 5 HP less.
From the looks of the LS2 air box and filter size, it looks like the marginal gains from aftermarket boxes and filters on LS6 will be even less on LS2 - like four hundred bucks for 2 HP, if that.

GM doesnt underate. Or didnt in 2003. GM has high enough quality control that the engines don't to vary too much.
The LS2 will be 400-405, thats my prediction based on precident.

Jim,
Please, GM doesn't underrate?!!! I had a 1998 TransAm WS6 with a 320hp rating from GM. It dyno'd 298rwhp bone STOCK!! Several of my buddies had either TransAms or Camaros with the 305hp rating and they all dyno'd in the high 290rwhp rnage and one broke 300rwhp with a 302rwhp pull bone stock! This rating came about because the Vette was 345hp and GM wanted it to be king just like they want the current Z06 to be king. The LS2 is going dyno in the high 370 to mid 380rwhp range, showing GM underrating it by 5 to 10% IMO. There was very little need to underrate the Z06.

My 98 TransAM with A4 Dynoed 289RWHP bone stock baby. I have since sold it and put a deposit on a C6. I was torn between an 04Z06 and the new C6 but a little voice inside kept telling me that the LS2 was going to be underated. Hope I'm Right. :D
