Re: Actual specs from chevy.com INCLUDES WEIGHT COMPARISON! (Beaz)
The reason the C6 is quoted at 48.7 " (+1") is because this dimension included the XM Band Antenna. The C6 and C5 are actually the same overall height at 47.7" according to Corvette Quarterly.
Re: Actual specs from chevy.com INCLUDES WEIGHT COMPARISON! (Z-Rated)
That weight looks very encouraging!! I really hope it is the weight at which most of us will see our C6s delivered. However, this is an area where I pick nits. Parity is crutial here lest we be duped. I'd very much like to know how the 3179 lb C6 was equiped. The RPO shows a 1SX option that is stripped of door airbags, HUD, memory - the most popular options. My guess is this is that I'd like to see the weights of C6 vs C5 both with Z51, 6sp M, and 1SB options and transparent top. That, or something pretty close to it, is how most of the C6s will be sold IMO. Likewise, is the 3245 lb C5 "stripped" or equipped?
Re: Actual specs from chevy.com INCLUDES WEIGHT COMPARISON! (LongTimer)
Published curb weights are for "base" models and there will also eventually be published info on option weights.
Since the C6 base model now has a manual rather than automatic as on C5 there is probably some saving there as manuals are usually ligher than autos.
When magazines test cars they usually weight the car with full fluids, including fuel, so we get a report on the curb weight for the specfic test vehicle including whatever optional equipment it has.
Another alternative to reduce "road weight" is for owners to go on a diet and lose some the the extra pounds that a lot of them are carrying around. ;)

Duke
 I hear that. I lost 17lbs in '03 and plan to drop about 10-15 more!

Exactly. I'm sure the C5 that the C6 mass was compared to was the stripped base model as well. Both models are strippers, therefore, the comparison IS apples to apples. The delta is valid
p.s. I lost 20 lbs in '03 as well, but I found 5 of them over the holidays

Where will we find this? ...on the GM site? I don't recall seeing this on the C5, but I probably didn't know where to look.
The AMA/MVMA specs that GM hands out to vintage Corvette owners as part of their complimentary "restoration package" includes weight deltas of all the options. I expect that similar data is published today, but it not generally released to the public, however, and enterprising person can probably find it.
At 6' and 190 pounds I'm about the same as I was 20 years ago, but I try to wear light shoes when I drive. ;)

The C6 has that 1sx package that is supposed to be a stripper, something not available for the non-Z06 C5. Also, the transmission for the base C6 is a manual, while the base for the C5 was an auto. Autos are usually heavier than manuals. I'm sure they used the lightest model to publish numbers for. Until we see what the packages include and how much each weighs, it's hard to compare apples to apples and see what kind of weight losses where achieved by engineering, and not just by removing options and making a manual standard.

you make some very good points w/ the 1sx and MN6 being std
SWC.....looks like you've done a good job of staying at your ideal weight
If I could just stay away from fried pork chops and chocolate chip cookies

Well, there basically was a base model C5, '1SA't', is essentially the 'stripper' model and the base C6 should be equipped the same way no?
I think the C6 as a 1sa model as well. I've never seen the t added to the end, so I don't know what that includes. I would think the C6 1sa would be comparable to the current 1sa. We will have to see the list to know for sure.
