Default 5.7 to 6.0 - is it a 355?

I need some help understanding this. Did they bore out the 5.7? An engineering dude told me of some conversion based on cam rotation or something - multiply the liters by 6 to get cubic inches? I get 360, so that can't be right. Or is it?? :seeya

101.6mm by 92.00mm = 5.9670L x 61.025 = 364.14 cubic inches

The LS1/6 have a bore of 99mm. The LS2 bore and stroke are now the same as the cast iron truck engines. GMPT reduced the bore of LS1/6 because of the liners. The bores are now siamized (no coolant running between the cylinders), so they could go with a full 4" bore.

Excellent info! I never put 2 and 2 together on that and understood the bore reasoning behind the LS1/LS6. It seemed very apparent from head porters that unshrouding the valves made a nice improvement in the LS1/LS6 and the smaller bore almost ensured that valves had some shrouding with the CC design.

It's NOT 366. It's 364 CID. Run the numbers - 101.6mm bore; 92.00 mm stroke or read the entire thread.

:iagree:

4.000 Bore x 3.62 Stroke = 363.9ci (364)

So it's really only like 5.95 liters? :confused: ;)

Yup. Just like the LS1 is really only like 5.67 liters.

Sounds better, but a small block 427 is a far cry from the pontential of a original big block breathing RAT 427 ;)

Regarding the displacement, for exact precision (of course depending of the length of pi used):

pi(r^2)h = volume of cylinder

3.14159265(2^2)3.62 = 45.490261572 ci

45.4672 x 8 cylinders = 363.922092576 cubic inches.

Something else interesting to note:

As far as the LS2 short block is concerned, its not much more than an old school 350, stroked just a litte bit:

old school 350:

bore = 4
stroke = 3.48

LS2

bore = 4
stroke = 3.62

Just to bring you guys up to date, GMPT does it's design work in metric dimensions and the nominal bore and stroke is 101.60 mm by 92.000 mm.

I previously ran the displacement calculations to five significant digits - 5967.0cc or 364.14 cubic inches.

:iagree:

364 or 366 who cares?

What about those siamized cylinders and 4.0 bore. That sounds read close to the C5R block that also has siamized cylinders and comes with a 4.1 bore.
Now you don't think these two blocks bight possibly be the same or real close? I wonder how much the LS2 can be bored?

Just sitting hear at 6 degrees thinking about spring and what might be! :)

actually if we are spliting hairs, the C5R block is 4.120 and is speced to be able to be bored to 4.160 ;) :cheers:
