Default Siamesed bores and engine modifications

I'm assuming that now that we have siamesed bores tuners will be able to bore the cylinders out with less chances of complications. Also, just by stroking alone this gives a much better starting point.

I'm thinking also that this engine will respond very well to forced induction once the compression is lowered. Especially once Chevy releases the 3 valve heads.

I think a lot of the Vette's competition will be getting some big suprises

I hope this isn't considered hijacking the thread, but can someone explain 'siamesed bores'? I'm not quite picturing what the heck that means.

It means there are no cooling jackets in between the cylinders, just aluminum.

Actually iron. They're still using sleves. Old trick is to drill small hole at the top of the piston stroke between the cylinders in the joining material. Another about a half inch lower. Supposedly lets some water flow through between the cylinders to help cooling.

Depends how close the liners are coming to each other. The engine has a 4.4" bore center with 4" bores leaving .4" between the cylinders. I believe the liners are relatively thin, so most of this extra space beteen the cylinders will still be aluminum, but it will also leave much more room for boring out the cylinders without worrys of hitting the cooling jacket.

Hmmmm. The orignal Vega open deck block was later modified with slots between the cylinders to allow coolant flow in the upper quarter inch or so, but since the LS2 block is a closed deck design it may not be so, but it could be so designed.

Here's a recent GM patent on an aluminum siamese cylinder block. I think this
is directly relevant to Gen IV.

Runge, thanks, that patent drawing is exactly the info I was looking for when I registered for this forum. How thick are those sleeves anyway?

Much more efficient solution than drill holes or cast slots. Wonder how they got the heat pipe to work with all the vibrations and g loads on the working fluid.
