In my opinion, obviously a little biased, I believe that GM uses and recommends Mobil 1 not because it is the best oil, but because it is a very good oil and ExxonMobil and GM have some sort of advertising vs supply of oil deal that probably saves GM millions per year in oil costs. ExxonMobil profits because then most people will stick with the factory recommendation and buy that oil for the rest of the life of the car. They both benefit from this type of arrangement.

You are correct, AMSOIL does use a system of MLM to sell oil, but that doesn't necessarily mean it isn't a good product. There are many other successful companies selling good products that use this scheme, likely because the initial startup expenses for the company are much less than setting up a nationwide system of vendors and distributors and paying for advertising. Pampered Chef, Creative Memories, Longaberger, and Discovery Toys come to mind.

AMSOIL was started in 1972 by a retired USAF LtCol who for whatever reason chose to go the route of independent dealers. He is still CEO and is very loyal to the dealer network he has built up over the last three decades. AMSOIL continues to grow and just recently expanded their tank farm and blending equipment to handle the expected growth of the next five years.

Why is Amsoil sold only through individual distributors?
Mostly see above, but, AMSOIL can be sold retail and purchased for commercial use.
If anyone owns a store with 12 or less retail outlets, I can sign them up for a retail account at no cost to you. The retail outlet then buys any AMSOIL product direct from AMSOIL at wholesale prices, sells it at retail, and keeps all the profits. If anyone is interested in this, please contact me.
Commercial accounts are similar. Any business that signs up for a commerical account (again at no cost) can buy AMSOIL products at wholesale for use by the business (i.e. in fleet cars, truck, tractors, RVs, etc.).

How ever if you would match prices with Mobil 1 you might sell more.
AMSOIL is not that much more expensive than Mobil 1. A gallon of AMSOIL SAE Synthetic 5w30 is currently $22.80. Preferred customer pricing is 20% less which is very comparable to Mobil 1. I understand shipping is extra, but for me and maybe others, the convenience of saving a trip to Walmart is worth the few bucks for shipping.

P.S. I expect a price increase on Oct 1st as AMSOIL updates their catalog effective Oct 1st.

Thanks! I had no idea that was going to be in there. I was flipping through the magazine and got to page 15 and thought, man that car looks familiar...
