Default XM capability with no XM ordered?

Does anyone know if the Nav unit is XM capable even if XM isn't ordered? i.e.- Can you install an XM antenna later to the Nav unit?

Driving the car in Germany for 2.5 years, and figured- why buy XM now if I can't use it? I did buy the nav system and would love it if I were able to put aftermarket (read: smaller) antenna on later.

Thanks for any help!

I am by no means a stereo expert but here you go ...

I have the Delphi receiver for XM that I move from home, to the boat, to my car. I don't know if the C6 has an auxilary input for something such as XM, but Delphi just introduced a new receiver that works wirelessly through your FM radio antenna.

Good luck.

Here's my totally uneducated guess. I speculate that since the NAV unit has the controls for XM on the screen, then it has XM capability if enabled. I'm thinking that the $325 is for the cable and antenna installation. I don't think it is a separate module, just enabling what is there. Like I said, this is just a guess.

Can't help you with your question - sorry. Maybe you can be of assistance to me. I will be transferring to Brussels next year and am keeping my fingers crossed that I can just pop a new european DVD into the Nav unit and it will work over there. Any confirmation?

Popeye,

Thanks for the info. That is exactly what I'm hoping for. A quick (smaller) antenna install, and 'bam' XM capability. I sure would love it if somebody tried this though.

2005 C6,

Don't know if the Euro DVD will work in the nav system. I'm almost positive it should.

I did post the same question on the forum a while back, and got no firm answers. I guess the only ones that know for sure is GM. If you find out before me, please let me know! Good luck.

I have asked someone who-knows-someone at the BG plant to check into this. I hope to have an answer on Monday! I have the same concerns too!

I just saw in an Ultimate Electronics mag. that Alpine has come out with a CD player for cars that is MX ready, just plug it into the radio entena. You might want to check on that.

Well here's the answer. Not exactly what I was hoping for :"it seems not that simple because the Navigation system by itself would have a diiferent Wiring Harness then the one with Satelite etc".

Just heard that 2006 model year will get the XM antenna built into the rear view mirror. I think I will get the XM and modify the antenna when it arrives...Not happy about it, but thats what I'll do...
