I am definitely set on doing a complete exhaust on my C6. What
are the differences between the two styles of headers? Is one
better than the other? Thanks for any info.
Tri-Y is a unique design. It pairs up the cylinders on each side of the engine.... near, but just before the collector. The two cylinders that are paired are the ones that have opposite pressures.
For example; on the drivers side you have cylinders 1,3,5, and 7.
When 7 is in it's exhaust stroke (high pressure) , a determination is made as to which of the remaining clyinders is at it's lowest pressure. Then in the header manufacturing process, these are the two that are paired (combined) near the collector. And the other two cylinders are paired the same.
They are more expensive though.
I'm hopeful that someone here can link to a web page that has a better description of the Tri-Y design.
Properly designed and fabricated tri-wyes will produce favorable wave dynamics to improve torque and power over a wider rev range than equal length, so they are generally best for a street engine.
