the torque on the bolt is 240#feet using the old bolt, then remove the old bolt and install the new one and torque to 37#feet plus turn the bolt 140 degrees more to get the proper stretch. you need a special tool to prevent the engine from turning while doing this.

They are replacing my motor because of the crank pulley problem. I'm not sure whether that's good or bad in the long run. I wonder how long this "fix" will take? If it weren't for bad luck....

Do they give any reason that makes sense as to why there are only a few with the problem?

Nothing except the dealer first thought they might have to replace the crank? Personally, I think they are guessing

Default Great Dealer

Yes, I think my Chevy dealer is an excellent one.

Rancho Motors in Victorville.

Every step of the pre-sale, sale and even the crank pulley/dampner problems we have gone through with them they have always seemed to place our interests first and foremost.

How terrible. What about 40 years from now? What will it be worth since it dosen't have the original engine? By the way, when they replace a engine in a new car, do they stamp the engine with the cars VIN, like the orginal or do the code them like they use to do with a CE stamp showing that the engine is a replacement engine?

Mine is an auto Z51 1SB.

My first questions to the Service Manager were about depreciation due to non-matching numbers and/or a Carfax flag for major mechanical work. He didn't have a clue but thought they were good questions. He again offered to just replace the crank but wasn't sure how long it would take to get the parts. I told him to do nothing until someone from GM contacted me. That was 0730 this morning, nobody has called yet.

I'm not too keen on any of these "fixes", I know in my heart that I'm going to be afraid to drive this car for fear of being left on the side of the road again. I've decided that I want my money back, a new replacement car, or this one fixed and a hell of a discount on my next GM purchase (Black Z06 ). Anything less and I'm going to hire a lawyer, this is insane. I'm giving this poor Service Manager nightmares but he is not really the person I should be Any suggestions how to get GM's attention?

To add insult to injury, I still don't have a loaner car. The local dealer has a contract with Enterprise and they don't have any cars

I've wanted a Corvette my whole life, I never thought it would turn out like this.

Can you tell me your Vin numbers?

Do you think there will be a recall?

VIN #1G1YY24U055104687

I don't know if there will be a recall but my local dealer says that this is the 2nd C6 he's had to "fix".

I'm sorry to hear that this has become such a problem for you. That is such a let down.

My Vin# is 4289 so you are 398 behind me. I know I would really appreciate an explaination from someone that actually knows why, but that has not happened. That is one of the original reasons I joined the forum was to determine what was going on. That was a mistake, I didn't get much in the way of possible reasons?

I had the same trepidation about ending up on the side of the road after it happened to me twice in one week. Now that has faded as I have gotten to know the car. It's at 2200 miles now and pardon the expression, Runs like a Striped *** Ape. I drove to work this morning over Angeles Forest Highway and can tell you there were plenty of full throttle upshifts and downshifts a couple of .83+ lg corners @ 60-70 mph and I have pretty much regained my trust of the car.

I am still waiting for them to replace the underhood blanket, damaged from the whipping belt.

did GM approve this engine change because i do not believe the dealer can do this on his own. the bolt must back out for this to happen so would think some red loc tite on the bolt would prevent this from happening. JMHO

You folks have me really concerned about my new vette. I purchased my C6 in October. My first set of belts spun off at 738 miles. The bolt in the harmonic balancer was also about to fall out (my husband could turn it with his fingers). The belts were replaced and the bolt loctited. This repair took 4 days. . . At 1328 miles the belts were chewed up completely (they only thing left was a couple of strings around one pulley). I was trying to get to a safe place to pull off the road when the engine overheated and within 5 seconds it said engine shutdown and the car completely shutdown all functions. The repair ticket says that the belts, the crank sensor and the harmonic balancer were replaced. This repair took 10 days. . . We bought our car from a dealer in another state because the C6's were not available yet in our area. So, the local dealers (2 different ones) have never offered us another loaner car to drive. GM has never offered to pay a payment so when the GM rep called the other night to ask us to do a survey on our new C6 she received an earfull. I wish I had my 98 vette back. . . Also, I now have scratches on the front fenders that were not there before and a nice cut place on the steering wheel and MUD on the floor mat. Who do I blame? the dealer, the tow people? who should fix it? My husband said that because I didn't tell the dealer about it when I picked it up that they probably won't do anything about the problems. Also, what happened to the the old days of a dealer at least giving you a clean car to take home? After the car sitting in the shop for 10 days it was really dirty with soot and grime. I had to spend hours cleaning it up. Just wondering how your dealers treat you!

Every step of the pre-sale, negotiations and sale were unbelievable, they did all they could to make it easy.

Then when the Crank pulley failed 2x they always seemed to place our interests first and foremost. I never had to ask for a thing either time as far as gas fill ups, detailings and the loaner car I got a 2004 SS/R with 300 miles on it for the time my car was being repaired. That was 3,000 miles ago and the C6 runs like a striped-***-ape all day long.

I cannot say enough about them and now it appears from what I read here their Customer Service EXCELS!!

Good Luck!

It you have a manual transmission, you have it in reverse, and you have the parking brake on, why would you need anything else to hold the engine from turning?
